I know it's not the best choice, financially speaking, but can we use a TS credit for a CS meal?

Not usually/officially.

You can ASK at your resort, but generally - except for very rarely reported exceptions - this is only possible during free dining, and only to assuage Guests who (despite repeated urgings by Cast Members) did not make reservations to eat anywhere and so now cannot use their credits.

last year they allowed you to trade a TS for a CS plus a lanyard I believe it was, because it was almost impossible to get in at a TS.

I have read that you can use a TS credit for CS meal and a CS credit for a snack. Could be wrong, but I have read that on a reliable source (sorry, can't remember which one!) I just remember reading something like "Be prepared for the CM to look at you strange"

If you read the Dining Plan brochure (see www.disneyworld.com), you can't. You can't use one type of credit for a different level.

In practice, Resort Managers MAY be able to authorize a trade down. Or they may not.

My understanding is that you can use a TS for CS. I don't see why Disney would prevent a guest from doing something that financially benefits Disney???
