Would you book a flight with them now for travel in July/August? My DH is worried that they're going to go bankrupt and is waiting to book. He wants to find out if we have tickets on USAirways, and they fold, will another carrier honor the tickets? Do you really think this airline will fold in 5-6 months or are we safe to buy our tickets?

Thanks!

My DH wouldn't let me book with them even if they were giving us the tickets. He has had some bad experiences with them and it was totally unacceptable. Is there a particular reason why your family wants to fly USAir? Our families have always had nice experiences with Continental and American. We're flying down on Continental because they are the only non-stop and at a reasonable cost.

I have US Air tix for November, and feel very comfortable with them. Union deals, and financing are now in place. For more info check with www.flyertalk.com (forums/airline programs/USAir Dividend Miles).

tinan,

USAirways and Southwest are the only 2 airlines that go non-stop out of PHL to MCO. Southwest doesn't have its schedule out for our travel dates yet. Out only other option is Spirit out of Atlantic City, but DH doesn't feel too comfortable with that.

plutospup,

Thanks for the link. I will be sure to pass the info on to my DH.

Just curious, why wouldn't you feel comfortable with Spirit out of AC?? I have read great things about them here and on other boards. My parents flew to SC on Spirit last summer and loved it (and my mom hates to fly!!). Parking at AC is very reasonable too. Just something else to consider.

We always fly out of Newark but are considering Spirit this time because when I started looking their prices were much cheaper than anything out of Newark but now their prices are just as high. :(

I wouldnt fly Us Airways. Also they only have secured money through june. I really dont think they will get an exstention then.:( Southwest is opening up more of there schdule this thursday. You might want to wait until then.

I am a preferred flyer with USAirways. They are great to fly. They are in pretty good shape right now. It's hard to find an airline these days that isn't having money problems.

I also suggest www.flyertalk.com There is a group that is "connected" with the airline that will give you the straight scoop on the airline.

I'm not that worried about flying direct (actually I think only 1 airline flies to MCO direct). I know it takes more time, but I love walking around different airports and getting a feel of what the city is like. I fly US cuz it's cheap. It is generally always cheaper than any other airline.

Now for US's service: I've never had a problem, they don't serve you meals though. But almost all the times I've flown, it's been on US (that's all my trips to Disney World I think). I never had a major problem. It's just like a few hours on the plane.

I'm sorry.....when I said Continental was the only non-stop......I should have been more specific and said that Continental was the only non-stop out of Cleveland at the time we wanted to fly. It will vary from airport to airport.

or...

I booked a usair flight through United. For some weird reason it was cheaper than booking through USAIR (SAME EXACT FLIGHTS). Also, I feel that if for some reason USAIR does close, the United would have to honor the tickets without any additional service charges.

Just for the record, USAir is already bankrupt, but are operating under Chapter 11 (ie reorganization), as is United; if are not successful with their reorganization, then they would migrate to Chapter 7 (liquidation) and cease operations.

Out of PHL, I think I'd choose SWA or AirTran. I just don't have a lot of confidence that USAir is gonna come out of this.

USAirways seems to be doing much better than it was before. I am not ready to give up on them yet and neither are a lot of other people.

Booked with US Air for our June 7th – June 16th trip. We are pretty confident that they will still be flying well into the future. No one could beat their rates, $132.40, roundtrip with tax and fees from Cleveland. Perfect flight times, so far (I know those are subject to change and have by 2 minutes already), the only drawback was that we don’t have a direct flight but I can lie with that in order to enjoy the savings. Just a little concerned about the connecting flights, flying out via Charlotte, flying back via Philadelphia. We have about 45 minutes to make our connecting flight. Not being a seasoned flyer I do have a little worry about making the connection in that short of a time. Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

USAir is on my short list of carriers out of PHL for our March 2006 trip. They got us, and our luggage, to MCO on New Year's Day, a marked improvement over the X-Mas Baggge Disaster of a week before. They're an hour quicker getting on the ground in Orlando as opposed to Southwest and, I believe, AirTran out of Philly in the AM.

Congrats to you for getting those rates. We're flying in Nov. and the best rate I could secure was through Continental non-stop from Cleveland for $257.

If you don't mind the possiblity of a non-direct flight try US Air. You are planning well in advance so you may luck out.

Cheryl,

Thanks! Actually it is over Thanksgiving weekend so I am happy even with the $257 rate. We already bought our tickets and I love the fact that it will be non-stop  For our time frame Continental actually worked out the cheapest, the non-stop is just a bonus :Pinkbounc

Great. I have always wanted to take my daughter to DW for Thanksgiving because she is off school and she has never seen the Christmas decorations. I may end up with an AP for our June trip, even if I don't we have decided to spend the money now in order to save later and will get 10 day MYW with no expiration. Since we only need 4 day tickets, we have 1 day left on old hoppers, we will then have 6 days left on the MYW tickets for a future trip. If I could get cheap air and then stay at a DTD hotel instead of a DW resort we maybe could swing a second 2005 trip for four nights. If I do get the AP that will really give me the incentive to make the second trip in 2005.

SafetyMom,

It's been a while, any news on the situation at US Air? I have relied on you since October to give me the skinny and to ease my fears. Is all well for the summer?

Bankruptcy talk has calmed down with USAirways. Unless something else comes up I think it is safe to book tickets for the summer.

You might want to visit www.flyertalk.com for the latest info on them.
