Hi folks,

On my previous trips to DW I've flown Usair. Does anyone know the latest news on them? Will they still be flying next year?

Thanks,

LAH

I am also curious about this. We book with USAir every November, but what happens if they're not in business next year? Do they refund our money? If you use frequent flyer miles with a company that is no longer around, can you transfer them to another airline?

As of right now, the future of US Airways is in the hands of the bankruptcy court. US Airways is asking the bankruptcy court to void all their employment contracts with the unions so they can restructure them. If the court won't void them, US Airways has announced they will have to liquidate starting in early January. If you purchase tickets on them, you probably will be able to transfer your tickets to another airline for a small fee (I believe $50) but you're subject to what the airline will give you, and the flights might not be as good as they were on US Airways. If you want a refund, you can try to contact your credit card company, but again, you're then stuck trying to find comperable airfare on your own, and your refund might be held up because of bankruptcy preceedings. As to frequent flier miles and frequent flyer tickets already purchased, you're basically out of luck. Frequent flier miles are a debt that an airline owes it's customers, but when it comes to priorityduring a bankruptch preceeding, they are pretty much last on the list, and by the time they would get down to pay them, nothing left. So, you are basically stuck there.

And to make it even more fun....

As you will see on FlyerTalk, the unions are threatening to go on strike if the bankruptcy judge voids the contracts. If they strike, I don't think USAir will survive....I would hold off a few weeks on those tickets.

I heard something on the news tonight about unions causing random flight delays/cancellations.

I flew back through Philly on Sunday and my luggage did not make the connection so it was delivered the next day.

My sister flew back through Philly very early yesterday morning and her flight was cancelled. They told her the next flight was mid afternoon so she and about 14 others had to take a flight to Allentown then they bussed her to the Scranton/WilkesBarre airport. Here's the kicker - her luggage was there at the airport!!! :teleport:

Anyway. I have a trip planned mid-April and although I always fly Usair and won't be buying the tickets for awhile.

I too have only flown US Air out of Philly. But this year I have a trip planned for mid April and I got tickets on SWA. Don't care much for the no seat assignment policy but I couldn't take the chance that US Air wasn't going to be around in April and then I am stuck for airfare. And I have a bunch of miles stacked up in my US Air account also. Oh well that is what I get for being a complusive planner I wouldn't be sleeping at night if I didn't have my plane fare already taken care of on SWA.

Oh great, I just booked flights on US Air for Jan 7-16. Do you think I will be ok??? They said the flights would be on United.

If the flights are on United, you might be o.k. Of course if US Airways does start liquidating United could refuse to fly passengers who booked their tickets through US Airways on a code share agreement. The only thing you can do is pray now. The one good thing is that since you have United flights, if US Airways hasn't started liqidating, you won't be subjected to the CHAOS strike that the FA union has already authorized and I'm sure the other unions will honor and follow.

It says on my E tickets - Operated by United Express/AWAC. Anyone know what that means?

We have USAir tix for June (including one w/ FF miles). I'm betting that USAir will still be around.

Hmmm...there's a good reason I don't go Atlantic City, or Vegas, though.

HELP..................last night I went on United.com to check there flight schedule for next year. I was just about to purchase our tickets when I saw that it said to "check in at the USair desk". HUH?????? What happens if USair goes under? (I hope they dont but....) Confused, please help.

If you purchase tickets from United on a US Airways code flight, your contract is with United not US Airways. Now, if the flight gets cancelled because US Airways goes under, United does have to find you a way to get you down there. Most likely that will involve connecting flights, since I see you live in NJ and United doesn't have any non-stop flights from PHL. Your flight times also might not be ideal. If you're not traveling for a while, I'd just sit back and wait to purchase your tickets. There is no reason to rush, and it might cause you much more heartache.

This is making me nervous...Our flights on USAirways are March20-30 2005, what do you all think? I am confused, I don't know where to start. Albany also has United, if US goes under, will United accept my tickets? I emailed USairways, but have not gotten a response. :guilty:

I'm not sure how USAirways expects to stay in business. For the heck of it (not serious about buying tickets now), I checked fares for our May 7 to 13 trip PIT/MCO. For 11:30am to MCO and 5:30pm return, USAirways wants $301! For almost the same times, Air Tran is $215. $301? Are they serious? I paid $135 on Air Tran for our trip a couple of weeks ago. I checked the seat charts, few seats are sold so it's not a case of high demand. I doubt they will sell many seats at $301, especially with their questionable financial status.
