Hey all,

I asked a little while ago about opening a credit card and got some good advice. I know there are many USAA members on here so I have one last question before I decide.

Should I go for the USAA Wold MasterCard or USAA AmEx?

Neither have a fee, both will get paid in full at the end of every month.

Do you have them? Do you prefer one over the other?

Thanks!

My dh uses the AMEX as his work credit card and we have the MC as a personal card. Only difference is that the AMEX has a higher interest rate than the MC. Not sure if it is like that for everyone, but it is how ours are. Both give us rewards points through USAA.

We have both....AmEx for business and MC for personal. I can tell you that a FEW times we have found that some small businesses do not accept the AmEx. Whereas we have never found somewhere that accepts credit and doesn't take MC.

MC used to have contests and such...we of course never won, but somehow it felt better know we had a chance, lol. I have also seen stores occasionally offer discounts for using a particular card, but I believe it's always been MC or Visa.

If none of these things matter to you, just close your eyes and choose. Since you'll be paying it off each month the higher rates don't matter to you. HOWEVER...think about that carefully.....if you became unemployed or injured, whatever that made you have no income for a short time, could you pay that card off immediately so that you don't pay interest? If the answer is, no I don't have savings so I'd probably leave a balance and pay minimum until I got back on my feet....then go with the lower rate. It's a nice peace of mind to know you have a low interest back up plan if life throws a curve ball. Our USAA MC is 8.5%....I have seen nowhere that offers a better rate!
