Whenever I get to the states, I'm annoyed that I can't get those BOGO offers, or that I pay 2$ more for my bread because I don't have the card. Some clerks scan their card when they see we don't have one, but not always. We're going camping to Virginia Beach 2 weeks this summer, so savings could pile up.

I'm wondering if it's easy to get one. Can you use the camping/hotel address (as most only want US address)? Do they ask for proof of address or ID (they'll quickly see that I'm no American)? I guess they'll send mail from time to time that you'll never get, but I don't want the extra coupons, just the displayed prices.

It may depend on the store, but I was able to get one this past week at a Shaw's in Maine without any problem. I used my Cdn address.

We use our Price Chopper card and get all the great deals.

They sign up Canadians all the time, with no issues.

A friend of mine got a Tops card in Buffalo with no problem.

I have a Safeway and a Vons (California chain) and I used my Canadian address for both-just head over to Customer Service first before you shop to see if you can get one or at least apply so you can have it for the next time your in the US

I got the Kroger card a while ago, you can sometimes get discounted rooms at GWL with it, which is what I did, I've never shopped there ever, but still have the card;)

My family and I have an Albertsons preferred card that we use when we are in Clearwater Beach and had no problems getting it.

Well thanks everyone, that's good to know. I'll stop fuming over the great deals next time, and send DBF to wait in line at the customer service while I shop. He hates doing the groceries anyway! :rotfl:

I was able to use my Canadian Safeway card in the U.S. locations without any problems. The cash register was able to identify me by name just like the Canadian locations and I was able to get the discounts just fine. The only thing that was missing was the Airmiles points.

I hope you have a great trip to Virginia Beach! I used to live there several years ago and I miss it desperately. The main grocery stores are Farm Fresh, Kroger, Harris Teeter and Food Lion. You might try looking up the stores websites to see if you can get information specific to those stores.

Thanks! I love it also, it will be my fourth time: 2 times as a teenager with my parents, and 2 years ago with DBF. The city is just the right size to offer lots of action, without being too large for a beach vacation feel (That comes from a city girl who has trouble when the convenience store in the village is closed after 8PM!).

There are a Food Lion and a Farm Fresh close to the camping from what I remember, so I'll try out one of those at first to see.

We have a Topps card and a Wegmans card we use in Buffalo and Niagara Falls New York all the time. No problem getting it, never a problem using it.
