DS is in 5th grade and has a project on the regions of the US. He is to do something creative to identify each region and label it. Examples of last year were a cake, tshirt, fabric, etc. They really do not want them to just draw it on poster board. We can do that but need to add something creative to it. Any suggestions or ideas? My husband thought about doing something like cutting out the shape on plywood but our son would not be doing the cutting and we want him to do the work. If we go that route he would be still be painting it, labeling it, etc. Looking for creative ideas to use for the coloring of the regions too, not just paint or markers. I know they said last year someone use different colored candy for each region. To all of you creative folks, please give us some ideas.

He could do a power point presentation set to music using regional music.

He would be honing his computer skills, which in my opinion would be more useful in the future, than doing a mosaic with candy.

The power point idea is a great one, and I have a couple of others too. What about a mobile?
Or a board game, similar to Candy Land with the game play snaking through the regions? He could use little cars as the game pieces and make it be a "road trip".
How about cupcakes displayed in the rough shape of the U.S. with little toppers appropriate to the regions stuck into the tops?
Sounds like a fun project...hope you get some great ideas here. DISers can be so creative! :)

My son had to do something similar to this making a map of the counties in our state. He used different materials to cover each county and on the bottom of the poster made a key using one of each piece. He even used pixie dust glued over one of the counties. Depending how much of a Disney freak he is, he can cut out colored "boy" pictures of Disney and glue or shellac them on. Or if you have copies of Disney maps, he can cut out his favorite rides and make each state in the region one of the lands in Magic Kingdom for instance.
