OK so we've had issues with our mail being delivered to the wrong location, we live in a house and its a no outlet road, there is a second street at the end called Lynn...well there is a house on that street with our same number 105. They've gotten our mail once before they were in Florida for the winter so it took 4 months to get our mail which included Valentine's Day cards for the kids.

Well we've been waiting for a $5000 check and when we go to get our mail we find someone else's mail in our box instead and get this...its not even close to our address..not even on the same street! So someone else must have gotten our mail, including that check:mad:

I call the USPS to see what I can do, they say "You can file a complaint BUT our system is down so you really can't even do that right now. Unless you want to call back some other day":scared1:

Asked if there was any way to contact our local office to see if they can have the driver figure out his mistake. They said no. (I know I talked to someone at our local office the last time. Because of the conversation we had)

My husband is out currently looking for the other address to return their mail to them. But its not like we can go looking in other mail boxes hoping to find our mail. I am so frustrated and have no idea what to do. I am really considering driving out to our local post office and seeing what they say.

Sorry just had to vent..we really need that check and I pray that the one's who receive it are honest and don't attempt to cash it themselves.

Go to your post office and complain. If the problem continues, your only option is to have your mail held at the post office and pick it up yourself.
Do you have a USPS worker delivering your mail, or a contractor?

Yes - go to your post office.. This most recent piece of mail may have ended up at your address because a sub was working that day.. Your regular mail person needs to be put on notice (in a nice way) that he/she has been delivering your mail to the wrong house..

Because I'm in such a small, isolated area up here at the lake, I can just call my post office (in the next town up the road) and they know me by name - just as I know all of the deliverers by name..

When I called to start my mail back up this year when I got here in April, I was very sad to hear that my regular mailman had retired..:( Of course they gave me a hard time and said it was all because he was tired of having to come up the road here (my box is down on the main road) lugging in all of the books I order from half.com..

Surprise, surprise - 2 weeks ago he popped in to visit! :thumbsup2 First thing he said when I opened the door was, "What are you reading?" :rotfl::rotfl:
We had a nice chat - he asked me if Steve (my new guy was working out well - and he is) - and then off he went..:goodvibes

Smalltown, USA.. I love it!!! :thumbsup2

The USPS hires casual help in the summer. I would talk to your regular mail carrier about this. Make sure you put the names on your mailbox. The regular carrier knows who you are...It is so confusing for the temp help.

you should contact whomever is sending you the check and let them know you are havin problems with mail delivery. They may be able to put a stop payment on the missing check and reissue it for you.

I would also go to the PO and speak to the Postmaster General in person.

Or - can this check be "direct deposited"? Just a week and a half ago I had a check due to me for a rather significant sum and since my bank is 60 miles away from here, I asked them if they could do a direct deposit for me.. Since they had my bank info on file (and was able to answer all their questions), they did the direct deposit.. It was there in 2 days..:thumbsup2

We used to get mail for another house on a different street that is our house number. The names of the street aren't the same or even close so I have no idea how that happened.

First, I'd go find that other house and see if they have your mail.

Then, I went to the Post Office and complained to the supervisor. Now it hardly ever happens since we have a new mail person.

If the people at the other house don't have your mail, I'd contact the company that you were expecting the check from and ask them to 1)issue a new one or 2) if they can direct deposit the check so you don't have to worry about it getting lost.

I got to know the other people really well. They were elderly and lonely. I'd chat with them for about 10 minutes every time, leaving their mail and getting mine. Hmmm, I wonder how they are doing or even if they are still there. I haven't had to visit with them in over a year now.

You can call your local Post Office. Just go to USPS.com and click on “locate a Post Office” on one of the top tabs. Enter your city and state and you will get a list of offices in your area. If you click on “more info” you will find a local phone number.

There is a ton of good stuff on the website. You can order stamps, print mailing labels, get free mailing supplies, forward your mail, and much more.

Although it would be a hassle I'm 99.9% sure I actually think I'm 100% sure but.... If someone else cashes the check YOU aren't out the money it is the fault of who ever cashed the check, it is the responsibility of the bank or whoever is cashing it to check the identity.

Any bankers out there?

Our mail gets mixed up all the time also,

OP, I also think that maybe you should look into getting a P.O. BOX for your mail ... it may be an inconvenience to have to go to the post office to get your mail BUT at least you know that no one has touched your mail except the postal employees. It won't be delivered to the wrong HOME.

Also, as others have said, definitely let the people who wrote the check know that it has NOT arrived and inquire with them if indeed it has been cashed.

Good luck.

OP, call your post office and ask to speak to the Post Master. If you don't get answers and action, with him/her on the line threaten to contact the Postal Inspectors. No post office likes to the the Postal Inspectors investigate their facility.

We successfully resolved our reoccurring "delivery problem" a couple of years ago with these two steps.

I would put a rubber band around the wrong mail and a note that says "delivered to wrong address" and not drive all over looking for an address. If there was a sub on the route the real mail person will probably get the note. If you keep doing that hopefully they will get a clue. I would also call and ask to speak to the Postmaster in your post office directly since this is an on going problem.

As a former mail carrier, I agree with the suggestions to contact the mail carrier. I used to deliver mail and had my own route, but had to be a sub for a much larger route once a week. I was a rural carrier (say 70 mile route with half the roads dirt roads & half of these washing out during the winter). The city carriers had subs that rotated during the week so usually the subs were not the same every week. Your carrier knows you.

If after contacting your carrier, contact the Postmaster. They will get to the bottom of the problem. The carrier can make a note on their case (where they separate the mail for delivery) to make sure that any subs will take care when sorting the mail to make sure that the correct mail gets to the correct address.

I had a couple families with the same last name (actually related) with similar box numbers (one section of my route was PO Boxes). It took me a little time when I first started to figure this out, but the families were both really nice about it and understanding.

Also contact whoever was sending you the check and let them know the problems. If they do resend it, have them send it Certified or Registered mail. This way it requires a signature and then they will be able to see who signed for the piece of mail. Good luck and I hope everything works out.
