So we are going to DW end of March, and I've been reading threads on US exchange and credit card, or cash. Is it worth it to get a US Credit card for only one Trip? We don't travel into the states at all (border is 8 hours away), and will only be taking the one trip to DW. Or should I just get Travellers checks and deal with it that way? I'm with Scotia bank, so they do NOT have the Debit visa's. I Could however open an account with TD and get a debit VISA. Although I'm not 100% how they work exactly in the US.

Thanks in Advance from a newbie!

No nonononono travelers checks... They still work but they're a hassle to deal with.

I've travelled abroad from the US and my Visa credit card has always worked internationally. Can you just get a Visa credit (not debit) card from your bank (or American Express) and just use that?

Yeah we have a VISA, was just worried about all the extra fees and what not. We also have a mastercard as well. So its just as good to deal with the VISA& if so, then i'm not going to worry about anything. :)

Can be....my husband gets paid in usd sometimes so we just deposit into our usd account , have one here, one in Fla and use to pay the cc.

:)

The Sears MasterCard is free and is straight exchange with no additional charges saving you at least 2.5%. I just charge everything payable in US funds to it when we go to Disney or on a cruise.

No service fee but still the exchange which right now isn't that pretty :confused3

I'll check into the sears mastercard. And yeah&. the dollar is NOT cool. *sigh*

Two other options from Chase have the same no Forex benefit as Sears MasterCard (also from Chase). The Amazon and Marriott cards don't charge forex. Amazon program will give you cash back on your purchases - automatically redeemed back onto the card (like they make a bonus payment for you every time you hit the threshold).

We have been using travellers cheques for the past 16 years and have never had one refused or anyproblem with them at all. We also use cash.

Be careful of Amex, there are a lot of places in the US that do not accept Amex. I doubt DW is one of them, though.

You can definitely use Amex at WDW. Amex used to be one of the major sponsors, there was an Amex-WDW partnership at one point.
