US Airways

I booked US Air from ABE-PHL-MCO for $200 with fees last March for Sept. I think $300 is high. You have a variety of airlines that have a direct flight to ABE, I have used Jet Blue and Air Tran. Not sur if Air Tran is still flying out of PHL, before it left Harrisburg I paid $77 one way.
Maybe it's early yet.

Yeah, I booked a USAir flight in early June for my mid-July trip - so about 5-6 weeks before the trip. Flight from ABE-PHL-MCO and then MCO-CLT-ABE cost only $204.

OP - write down the name of the person who told you they would reduce the price of your ticket. I'd be surprised if they really do drop your price but definitely call when you see the price drop. Good luck!!! :goodvibes

I just flew USAirways on my trip last month to St Thomas. I can say it was fine. Yes, their flight attendants are old, they don't serve you peanuts or pretzel but you do get a can of soda. The planes were clean, actually appeared to have more leg room than others we have flown recently. In Charlotte there was a mechanical issue with our plane. As we were sitting at gate waiting I actually got a call and email from them notifying me of this! That impressed me as last time with Delta and a flight cancellation I had no call, no email, no nothing (Delta claimed to have called but amazingly everyone in line behind us was checking in for the same flight and NONE of us had gotten notification).

I had no issues with bags getting there, no problems with overhead storage or anything.
I'd fly them again...if the cheapest.

Sorry to hijack,
Yes, that's our routes too with a 5:15pm. The latest is a night flight 7:00 direct to Phil with no flight out of there. How were the flights, I see they operate as Piedmont on two legs?

The last exp was a trip on Allegiant, but that is Sanford and the most you get is one backpack free and glass of water. But at $77 direct was worth it I guess.

I have no complaints at all. Charlotte airport is quite nice. I was surprised at just how large that airport is! I was debating between two flights home - one had a 40 minute layover at CLT, the other had a 2 hour layover. I posted on this board at the time I was looking to book as to whether that 40 minute layover was doable and got a lot of people saying that would really be pushing it. I am OH SO GLAD that I took the 2 hour layover! It took me a good 30 minutes to get from the E gates (larger USAir planes) to the B gates (smaller USAir Express flights) ... or was it B to E? - and that's WITH the moving walkways.

I just did a second look, whooh I also did the 2 hr layover. I would never make a second gate that fast...also pulling out of MCO what if there were a delay. Glad I made the decision.
I have never been through CLT.
Thanks

Oh goodness, they don't suck. You just bought too early...and learned a lesson the expensive way. Just be thankful they'll give you a credit if the price goes down because that is not common with legacy carriers. (I'm surprised they'll do it, actually.)

Honestly, I have started to change my mind a bit about USAirways. After avoiding them like the plague for several years, I've flown them 3 times in the last 8 months or so and had surprisingly good experiences each time. (Or maybe United has just gotten so bad that even pitiful ol' USAirways is looking good in comparison. ;) But hey, they offer wifi on lots of flights now, and United has virtually no wifi routes.) So don't worry...they aren't all that bad.

I agree 100%.

FWIW, I've gotten much better pricing in the past but SWA hasn't been cheap lately either. I've been helping my boss book a WDW trip for early March and SWA wants $174-199 each way. Even when I look under the low fare calendar $174 is the cheapest. I wasn't looking on first day of release so perhaps it was lower then but right now it's outrageous! :crazy2: This is not Easter break either. I guess some colleges have spring break that week but it's not her college-aged nephew's week at all.
I'm hoping this doesn't become the new norm.

OP, count this as another lesson in life. At least you can choose your seats in advance for free. Personally I could care less about snacks & drinks on a 2 hr flight. That's easy enough to pack or buy after going through security. If you think the bags fees to MCO are bad, look at their prices to Europe: 1st bag is free but 2nd bag is $100!! Needless to say, we will be checking 1 bag each!!

Before your next trip, sign up for email alerts from the airlines. We fly out of Philly all the time to MCO and have used US Airways, Air Tran and Southwest. In June got an email from Air Tran and was able to book round trip for $99 each way, around $425 total for two people. Since then, I still check periodically and have not seen anything cheaper than $174 each way. The $99 sale was only for three days, so had I not gotten the email, I most likely would have missed the deal.

Now I'm only hoping for another alert with deals for January!!:)
