US Air Tickets/School Vacation Week

The 2 big dates to watch were the 6th and the 15th. The 6th today, is when a judge was to rule if US Airways could volid the contracts they have iwth labor groups to lower their immediate costs. US Airways actually won today, not that that means they can stay around. The 15th is the date they need the rest of the interium financing in place to stay afloat in the bankrupcy proceedings.

We also have tickets with USAIR . We are going April 23 thru April 30th, 4 day wonder and AKL. After dicussing it with several travel agents we decided to have a back up plan and booked with southwest.

I have travel insurance, and according to my TA, the companies don't cover airlines that are already in bankruptcy (USAir is in for the second time). It is in the fine print of the contract.

Wouldn't surprise me if the machinists walk. The baggage handlers in Phl don't have the best job moral and there have been problems WITH a contract.

I don't want to jinx it (crossing fingers), but all is quiet on the US Air front right now. I even heard some positive speculation today that they may have a slight chance to pull through all of this.....I hope so, but I won't cancel my back up flights until one hour before departure.

We are sailing on Saturday - other family members are driving down on Friday morning. Lucky for us they are taking a trailer and have room to take our luggage! One less thing to worry about!

That is great. Can I throw my bags in there too? Good luck.

I am busily packing my children's carry ons to carry on everything!

I would consider USAir to be out of business already. Ridiculously low airfares (less than 1990 on average) skyrocketing oil prices and corrupt management are to blame. Mechanics have taken close to 40% wage cuts (think they're working hard?) pensions are gone and other work groups groveling for scraps. Forget the money, play it safe for you and your family's sake, this is a dead dog!

It was just announced that the Air Transportation Stabilization Board has agreed to extend the airline's use of cash proceeds from its federally guaranteed loan through June 30, 2005. This was the next stumbling block that the airline needed to get through. The bankruptcy judge need to approve it this afternoon - and that shouldn't be an issue. The airline states that they plan to emerge from Chapter 11 later this summer.

A glimmer of good news - especially for those of us who are traveling tomorrow.

Hooray!!!! We are traveling tomorrow for the 1/15/05 Magic. We were quite worried as both our flights are booked with USair. We really hope USair can pull through. We have flown with them more than other airline and have had great experiences with them.
