I have 2 questions....

I booked our flight through cheaptickets.com, the airline listed was United but it said USair would actually be carrying the flight, they advised us to check in at the USair counter and etc. The flight numbers I got from cheaptickets are different than the ones I saw on the US air site for our times and destinations. So my question is...do I go by the flight numbers cheaptickets gave us or by the flight numbers on US air's site?

My second question is about carry-ons. It's basically just a jansport bookbag but I was wondering if I could keep it with me, maybe on the floor in front of me, between my feet?? I don't know if their policies have changed or not about where to stow carry-ons and I'd much rather keep my carry-on with me, close by and not in the overheard compartment. They also allow one personal item (ie: a purse) I don't have to stow this away do I? I'd rather keep that with me also.

Sorry if these seem like silly questions but I haven't flown since 1991, we're 9 days out and I'm getting antsy!!!

You are probably seeing the United flight numbers. Even though you are flying on USAirways, United has their flight numbers for the same plane also.

You are correct that you will have to check in with USAirways. You can check in from the USAirways website. If you have luggage you will have to go to the self service kiosk or ticket counter or outside to a skycap to check your bag.

You can keep the bookbag with you as long as it is under the seat in front of you. If you are in a bulkhead row it will have to be in the overhead bin during takeoff and landing.

And as long as you're on a full-sized jet, rather than a Regional Jet or a Turboprop. The RJ's and Turboprops are rather small, and there's not necessarily a lot of space ... on some RJ's, they'll let you keep your bags with you, on most turboprops, there's not space for them, so you'd have to gate-check (put them on the cart as you board the plane, get them off the cart as you exit the plane)
