US-27 or SR-429

Ok....I've been doing tons of research trying to find the quickest way to The World .

DH and I have always travelled the US-27 route. Now I've read about the newer SR-429 route and many have stated that it shaves off time...time from travelling on I-4. Some of the mapping sites and programs do not have the Disney/Hartzog Road exit, so I can't get it mapped correctly.

My question is...Which is faster - US-27 or SR-429?

It has to be 429 -- there is absolutely no stop and go as there is through various parts of 27 and then 192 once you get there. It's really smooth sailing with the first stop being once you hit Disney property (as I recall - I just did this two weeks ago!) Also there was little traffic.

This is what I was thinking...just trying to convince DH. He likes the "Scenic" US-27 route. I just want to get there the quickest way I can!!!!

Actually 429 is more scenic as you can see the Disney resort in the distance off to your left as you are going south. It is kind of cool to see the Contemporary about 10 miles away. I haven't seen it at night yet, but I am sure that is pretty neat.

The 429 basically runs parallel to US27, but further to the east over in Orange County. It's exit# 267A off the Turnpike and the Disney World/Hartzog Road (to Western Way) is exit# 8 when you're on the 429. US27 has so many traffic lights now through Clermont and points south that it no longer is a very good shortcut to the World.

When you're southbound on 429 keep your eyes peeled to the southeast as you pass Mile Marker 13. This is the high point of the road and on clear days you can see Cinderell's Castle, Space Mountain and the Contemporary Resort far off in the distance. Northbounders can see the skyline of downtown Orlando off to the northeast.

We discovered 429 this past March and it was so much easier/quicker/less congested than 27--or in the old days when the only route I knew was to pick up I-4!! We'll use it again at the end of September for sure!

I would agree its a very nice scene! I had no idea we would see Disney in the distance and it was much nicer than seeing housing development, after Kohls, after strip mall, and then onto 192 where its one commercial establishment after the next.

I will definitely be using 429 again and again!

We've always traveled around to the east of WDW and we are so excited to get to try out 429 in a couple of weeks! It sounds like it's going to be so much easier!!!

Does anyone happen to know if there are tolls on 429 and how much they are approximately?

MissLiz...I calculated the following toll on the http://www.floridasturnpike.com/TRI/index.htm website. From the 429 exit to the Disney exit:

"For a 2 axle vehicle to travel 13.60 miles
Toll with SunPass is $1.00
Toll with Cash is $1.00"

Route 27 is getting more and mroe congested by the day, at least three new traffic lights have gone up between Route 50 and Lake Louisa State Park alone in the past year, wiht another just about to get turned on.

Take the 429.

There are actually two tolls - one on the tollway for 1.00 and then one on 429 for 1.50.

I agree with all the others on the road to take. Western Beltway all the way.

However, the OP mentioned most mapping sites don't show it. Google does. Go to Google Maps, then click on "Hybrid" view. You will not only see road names, but a very good satellite image of all of it. You can zoom way in and see how many lanes there are, stop lights, etc. Very useful tool. They even have the "Street View" option now. I like to zoom in to the MK parking entrance, then click Street View and show my DD's. They love seeing that!

No, it's not $2.50 total. The toll on Florida's Turnpike is $2.50 by itself and then there is another $1.00 on the 429. That's $3.50 total.

Here is the toll schedule from I-75: If you get off at US27 you only pay $1.25 at the exit. If you remain on the Turnpike then you pay the $2.50 mainline toll and then $1.00 along TOLL 429. If you stay on the Turnpike to I-4 then you pay $.50 at the I-4 exit.
