urine smell

Any of you have had this experience? We recently stayed at POFQ. Upon arrival to the room, I noticed immediately a strong urine smell. Checked the toilet and it was quite stained.

Upon discussion with resort manager I was moved to another room at POFQ. Much cleaner, but still had strong urine odor.

Debated moving, but my sister who lives in a different area was coming in and at that point her arrival was the main prioity.

Any of you have the same experience whether at POFQ or another resort? Could this come from the tiles in the bathroom or my imagination.

We've stayed at POFQ many times and have never noticed a urine odor in any of our rooms. That must have been horrible! We've stayed at Pop too and never had any issues. Did it persist? Did your sister comment on it after she arrived?

I work in facilities management for the government, and we have several state service centers (free clinics, if you will) that we have to have a day porter to clean up "accidents."

Sometimes staff notice the lingering of the smell, after we have cleaned. Sometimes you just cannot get that smell out of your mind once you have gotten a wiff of it. Eventually it does subside.

You may have experience that.

Either that, or someone didn't make it to the bathroom and it may have been in the rug and wasn't quite cleaned enough????

I was there twice in the past few months and both times the room smelled bad. We found the smell was in the shower curtain on the 2nd trip. We had them come exchange and that solved the issue. I think they were not getting dried well and they molded. Maybe?

Or the prior occupants of the room had a bed-wetter in the family.

My best friend growing up...her little sister was a bed-wetter & her room reeked. I could not walk past the door without almost gagging.

We have never had that happen, but would want a different room if it ever happened. As Missytara had mentioned, maybe the second room was just your mind tricking you. Did anyone else notice the smell in second room.

We had that happen at a Hampton Inn last year. Every time the AC came on it smelled like someone had urinated in the AC unit. Never had that problem at WDW tho. I agree, it's a nasty smell.

We were at the Contemporary this past January with a large group and had quite a few rooms. One family we were with had that in their bathroom. It was barely surface clean, you could still see dried urine on the base of the toilet. They had other issues with the cleanliness of the room, so after going to the front desk they had their room changed. I agree that unless the base of the toilets/tiles and floors are cleaned really well, surface cleaning will not eliminate a urine smell. The truth is a lot of men and boys at night just don't hit the mark. :rolleyes1

I would have to imagine bed wetting is fairly common at WDW, considering all the small kids. I've never really considered that before. I wonder how often housekeeping checks for that...

FWIW, POFQ was actually recently renovated (within the last year and a half) with all new mattresses, shower curtains, etc. Not sure if the toilets were replaced. I think maybe the carpet was replaced? Not sure about that either. Maybe if they are using a new kind of shower curtain, this one could be more susceptible to mold or something.

The rooms were totally gutted, and everything was replaced incl toilets, tubs, sinks, carpets, tile, everything. Even new air conditioner units.

Not a urine smell, but when we stayed at ASMo years ago, when we first got in the room I kept smelling a slight vomit like smell near one of the beds. I'm guessing the last family there had a child vomit in the room. I called mousekeeping and they cleaned that part of the floor. I could still smell it afterwards and they came back again and after that it was fine. If not, I would have asked to be moved. I'm sure with all the kids staying at WDW, that they have this sort of stuff happen often.

Yuck! So sorry that happened to you. When my in-laws brought a brand new just built house they had that smell in their half bathroom. It took them a long time (and regrouting) to get rid of the smell, but it was horrible.

So disgusting!! I'm sorry this happened to you. As many others have said, though, not a surprise. I'm guessing it permeated the grout.
