Urgent room advice needed!

We need to book our hotel for November.. and have never been to DLP before (well... we went for a day trip once before kids!)

anyway.. there is just DH and DS6 and myself - and ideally we would like 2 rooms.
We can get a good deal at the Explorers hotel on the crew6 rooms..
or possibly upgrade to a suite if we can find anything about it..

Holiday Inn doesnt seem like an option as it looks too cramped from the pictures...although it looks more luxurious.

I am concerned that the Explorers hotel is a bit basic.. we dont do basic very well..

Have tried the Marriot but there is no availability...

What about the dream castle? whats that like?

What other hotels or advice can you offer me?
Does anyone have any piccies of the Explorers... the ones on their own website are not great...

Have you consider Disney's Sequoia Lodge?

Price wise it is mediocre and they will have an authentic large log fire burning in the Winter which is a nice touch. I'm pretty sure you might still be able to get Disney's free night offer in November as well which makes it cheaper again. Three nights for the price of two or four nights for the price of three.

If you're focusing your trip on Disney it is worth looking at their hotels because you get extra benefits obviously - like disney characters in your hotel, free shuttle bus to the parks, Disney Village entertainment and an option of having your breakfast in Disneyland park on one day. Also all your theme park tickets are obviously included in the hotel price.

There are cheaper or more expensive options than Sequoia Lodge but it depends what you are looking to get out of the hotel really.

We've always been keen to have our troops in the same room, but as 5 now have to consider 2 rooms.

We were very happy with Holiday Inn. It had a nice curtain area that was set up for the kids. Explorer was on our sort leet with crew room, but lost out as HI came in cheaper

We stayed at the explorers in 2004. Its a nice comfortablehotel. we had one of the family rooms for 6 which had a seperate adjoining room with bunks/Tv for the children. There were 2 single and 1 double bed with open wardrobe, kettle, Tv and phone. There was a seperate wc to the bath/shower room. The rooms are a similar size to the SFe and clean and comfortable. An ideal base for the money. Not in the same league as the NBH but then there is a big jump in price. Would stay in both again.

I will dig out a few piccies tomorrow if thats any help.

Sammie, if you follow the link for Expedia in here there is a virtual tour of the Explorers. We've stayed there 3 times and have no hesitation about returning. You will probably find the 6 person crew room perfectly adequate as there is a proper door between the bunk and main room. Although the hotel is fairly basic ie. there is no room service, it is always clean and very comfortable, the pool is nice and I find it much better value than two rooms in one of the other hotels. However, it all depends how much time you will stay in the hotel ~ we only use it to sleep and eat breakfast, the rest of our time is always in the parks!

I may be wrong but I'm sure you can get connecting rooms in some Disney hotels. When I first went (about 12 years ago) I'm sure we had linking rooms in the Sequia lodge.

If there's only 3 of you, surely sharing a room wouldn't be a problem. Most of the Resort hotels have 2 double beds in them. I'm not sure many hotels would allow a 6 year old boy to have his own room!

Firstly, obviously if my son was in a different room, I would be there with him! Youre right, there is no way I would have him in a seperate room that was not connecting.

The problem we have with sleeping in the same room as DS (actually this isnt my problem, but rather my husbands!) is that we dont want to turn the lights out and go to sleep at 8pm!
We are used to having a two bedroom apartment on holiday.. and this wont seem like a holiday to us if we are in one room.

Having said that, Im trying to convince DH that its a good idea and that we will be exhausted in the evenings anyway as we will be park pounding more than at WdW...
