7 month window.. BC is available for my date.. my points r tied up with my 11month WLV ressie.. Do I have to cancel my first ressie to book my 7 month. I do not have enough borrowed points to book BC.
How fast do the points show up.. Im don't want to lose it.

Yes you would have to cancel first ressie if you don't have enough points. I think points show up pretty much immediately.

Good luck! :goodvibes

Yes, you have to cancel, as the points have to be available for the booking.

I've cancelled and re-done a reservation once online, to change the dates, and the points were back in my account immediately. But be aware that your desired reservation could disappear even in those few seconds. Someone could be reserving it at the moment you click cancel, leaving you with no reservation at all.

Thanks Chuck!

It was gone. but I did not cancel mine out yet..im waitlisting!

Your better off just calling Member Services... They will actually hold the reservation while they cancel the other one... I have done this before.....Good Luck

reports vary. some at MS seem to be able to put it on hold, some cannot.

Correct, the regular MS Advisors do not have the ability to hold inventory, only the managers, team line, and member satisfaction have that ability.

I found that if I went through to book online and then called member services they were able to find the booking I was 'holding' and cancel the first and then book the one I was holding right there and then.

Can you hold the reservation in one window and cancel the other in another window?

Yes, I have done this, but used 2 different devices to access online (either a pc or tablet). Used one to grab the ressie I wanted and then another to cancel the old one. Then I refreshed the ressie I wanted and the points were there from the one I cancelled. I had to use 2 different devices because for some reason when I used the same device it just didn't work on my account (cookies? I don't really know why). I have done this a few times now successfully using the 2 devices, but it always makes me very nervous. Good luck.

I have tried this before, too, in the past when I was using transferred points to try and rebook a reservation to a different resort because transferred points don't show up online in one's account to use. I did this exactly as you described by holding what I wanted and then called MS, the member services person could not see what I was holding, though. I had to cancel the ressie I was holding so it would go back into the computer system. She was very patient and kept looking (for several minutes) until it reappeared in the system and then she grabbed it for me. Someone else could have gotten the ressie, so I think I was very lucky. The member services representative seemed as excited as I was to be able to get the reservation for me which kind of added to the thrill of the booking experience. The whole process kind of raises the heart rate for awhile.

Have you done this recently? I read a post last week that they no longer allow you to do this. Something about freezing the points for the canceled reservation :confused3

Most often they don't they have to do exactly the same cancel then book. I have had MS lose a reservation while cancelling the previous. Makes no difference.

I did this 2-3 months ago without a problem using the 2 devices. My sister did it to change a booking just about 1 1/2 months ago. She also used both her pc and her ipad to do it. It did not work for me to use just one device and try and open more than one window. Also, in the past when I used 2 different devices I logged in using 2 different accounts (same membership number, but my sister's account with her permission) and used one to reserve the room and one to cancel the old ressie. Then I refreshed the reserved room to see the cancelled points. This might be a safer way to go rather than using one account. My sister said she just used her one account with 2 devices when she did it recently and didn't need to log into mine.

Nalajms, I just wanted to let you know that I tried this again today to help my sister get 2 consecutive nights at BW in the same room category during the F&W Festival (she previously had 2 different room categories at BW so was going to have to move). I am happy to tell you...and everyone else, that the method I reported earlier for reusing your points for changing your booking still works. Again, I used both my pc to hold the new reservation I wanted (you have 20 minutes to complete the reservation) and my tablet to cancel her old reservation. I then refreshed the one I was holding and the cancelled points were available to use, so I finished the booking. I did use my account to log in to the pc and my sister's account to log into the tablet (same membership number with the same contracts). I think you do have to use 2 devices for this to work, but it is nice to know that it does. My sister was over the moon that she won't have to move and she had also been checking twice a day to see if availability opened up.
