Urgent help required

Hi

I dunno if any body can help, but I need to know the quickest way to get my neice her med cream to florida,

My sister took three tubes of it with her (if her exma flares up its has to be administered every 1 to two hours over her entire body, as her exma causes the skin to dry out, flake and then open up to cause deep painfull cuts) its never flared up before like this, and shes running out of the cream. the usa doctor says because of all the things dneice is allergic to (and theres alot) we need to get the cream from here.

Now my sister is hoping to call her docs tomorrow to get them to release the prescription to me (its a repeat) and I need to get it to her as soon as possible the quicker the better, but how? The dhl web sites not making any sense to me, so any other options, and how quick can I get it there? Plus I need to try and keep it below 35 temperature wise.

Any help greatly appreciated as I how no clue how to do this

I think your best bet is to ring FedEx and DHL and tell them you have to get this sent out asap and that its temperature sensitive, i'm sure they will be able to help. But I think its probably best to ring and explain it yourself. Hope you get it out ok!

I would FedEx it. I have had a package overnighted to NYC before via FedEx. They can pick-up from your home too.

could the usa doctor not issue a prescription over there (here) and get some from wallgreens. it may even be worth going to wallgreens to see if it might just be directly purchasable

If its prescription medication not sure you would be able to send it through any courier due to rules and regulations of it entering another country. Is there no way an alternative can be found in the US?? If you get its generic name it may be available there but under a totally different name, this happen alot with various drugs etc.

I agree............surely the doc in the USA can look at the cream thay had/ have and prescribe the same..............Usually you can buy things in the US tha we need a script for here.
Do you know what the cream is?? I have eczema myself - and both DS's.

My cousin left his driving license at home a couple of years ago and relatives had it fedex'd to him, it took 2-3 days, but again I'd try to source the cream over there. Last year we bought hydrocortisone cream for DD's excema (not severe) in AKL shop for just a couple of dollars!!

By the way, I thought I was starting with conjunctivitus while over there and a lady in our shop at CBR recommended (sp?) 'clear eyes' which worked wonders, wish I'd brought a few bottles home with me!

You may have problems getting a package of medicines into the USA. I Googled for this article:

Narcotics and dangerous drugs are prohibited entry. There are severe civil and/or criminal penalties if imported.

Declare all medications to Customs when entering the United States.

A traveler requiring prescribed medicines (e.g. cough medicine, diuretics, heart drugs, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, antidepressants, stimulants, diabetes medication etc.) should:

* Have all drugs, medicines, and similar products properly identified
* Carry only such quantity as would normally be used by an individual having the health problem requiring the drugs or medicines in your possession
* Have either a current prescription or written statement from your personal physician that the medicine is being used under a doctor's direction and that it is necessary for your physical well-being while traveling. The doctor’s note should state the name and the exact quantity of the medicine you are bringing into the U.S.
* Carry all medication in your hand luggage (including needles for diabetics) also in case of loss of luggage

It is recommended to ask for a medical passport from your pharmacy/physician.

Medication can be sent by post if the prescription or doctor's letter is included. A notation should be placed on the outside of the parcel stating, for example, "DOCTOR'S LETTER ATTACHED."

Not all medicines are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or allowed into the United States. Concerta and Ritalin are approved medicines.

The FDA Orange Book can be found here. Maybe better (as the article suggests) to get the UK doctor to include a letter of authenticity so US Customs can see it's a prescribed medicine.

well she has seen the doctor, who says its not available in the usa, instead of prescribing something else (because of severe allergies) he suggested we get the precrition here and post it.

so they have already apid for the doctor who was no help at all really, so now its on to me to get it there

If the cream is not available in the US there must be a reason for this and unfortunately it may not be allowed in due to reasons above as stated by AndRu.

Do you know of the generic name as you say the Dr has been 'useless' perhaps a second check may be a good idea on the internet to see if the Dr was right! I hope you can get this sorted soon, how much longer are htey out there for?

I go with the 'visiting the pharmacist' plan

Have your family taken the cream to the US pharmacy for them to check out all the ingredients?
Your pharmacist, at home, may well be able to come up with a substitute that can be requested in the US

Doctors are great but each has their own particular interest / speciality (including GPs).
If your question about something isn't in their field then it's not unusual for them to simply not know the answer - even when it comes to drugs and interactions.
I'd imagine that many docs in the US are also worrying themselves silly about being sued

If its not available in the US you may have a problem getting it in. I used to take medication for severe allergies when i went i had to have a letter from the docter stating what it is, what it does, why i need it etc etc and they had to check i was the person it was intended for and that i wouldnt be giving it to someone else.

However if thats not an issue, i had to fed ex a wedding contract over to Disney a few weeks ago and it got there within 24 hours!
