Hi,

I am hoping that there is someone who can help me. My aunt in Florida has just died suddenly, so we are going over for the funeral on Sunday.
I have managed to get a flight out to Sanford with Thomas Cook on Saturday from Manchester, and I have managed to get DVC accomodation at Saratoga Springs for the week.

Now comes the fun bit, I know nothing of flying with Thomas Cook, and none of us drive, so I have no idea how we will get to and from the airport.

Can anyone please help me, I am panicing, but trying to appear calm for my mums sake, as it was her only surviving sister.

Thanks for any advice.

You could contact Mears, as they do airport transfers for a relatively low cost

Sorry to hear about your loss

:goodvibes

Could Thomas Cook not provide you with transfers to and from the airport?

Sorry to hear of the loss of your Aunt, hope things go as well as possible in such a difficult time

Thank you Tinks. I hadn't thought to ask them as it was a low cost(ha) flight.

Thanks Claire, I've looked at the site, but they only seem to collect from Orlando, not Sanford.

Did you book Saratoga through TC as well? If so, it constitutes a package and according to their brochure, airport transfers are included as far as I recall. Not to say it's not included if you did flight only.

No problem Claire, thanks for the idea.

2Tiggies I booked the flight seperately, and used my DVC points for the room.

We used transfers the first year, but found that it was cheaper to use town cars, depending on how many people & exchange rate. We used Tiffany town cars & Samtransportation.com, both were good but we preferred Sam, who was also cheaper.

Sorry for your loss,

Hi Sharon, thanks for the suggestion. I have emailed with a query for a quote.

Please let us know how you get on. The fewer problems you have to deal with at a time like this, the better. :goodvibes

Hi
We have done the sanford to SSR trip loads of times and rarely prebook (although as the previous posts have confirmed this is an option). There are always taxis available which is quick and fairly reasonable. Or you could just take up the shared van option which is reasonable well organised and safe. Sanford is a bit further out than OIA but its not a major problem, they are used to us brits not being able to drive, or not wanting to - we havent hired a car for years and still manage to get around and see what we want to see.
Best of luck with your trip.

I think(I hope) Sid will be there now guru, his Aunts funeral is today.

Hi,

We are now relaxing after the horror of the last week, thanks to all who offered advice and suggestions.

The Thomas Cook flight was uneventful, if a little snug in the seat and legroom department. The food was inedible, but the crew were great, if a little busy constantly going up and down, selling you everything that they could.

Sanford was a nightmare, relatives were supposed to collect us, but it turned out that other family members were flying from Manchester, at exactly the same time as we were, to Orlando International, so they went to MCO to collect them instead of us!

We ended up having to get a taxi to Saratoga Springs, it cost us almost $80, at a discount, but we had a great taxi driver who gave us lots of advice for getting around Orlando without a car.

We had a terrible problem getting to the funeral in Titusville on Sunday morning, as my uncles phone had developed problems, and we were unable to get through to anyone to get a lift sorted out, as no one realised we were coming! In the end I had to contact the funeral home to get one of my cousins cell phone numbers so we could arrange for another cousin to collect us and drop us off.

Lots of drama, but it was all worth it to get my mum here to see her sisters service, as she never would have forgiven herself if she hadn't been here.

We have managed to reconnect with my cousins and their families, and we are spending the rest of the week having a relaxing inpromptu holiday. We have conquered the Lynx bus system, lol, shopped til we dropped at the Florida Mall, and got some bargains to take home to the family members that we had to so suddenly leave behind.

I can't believe that I am here to be honest, but we are trying to make the best of it, and spend some quality mother daughter time which we haven't had the chance to do before.

Sorry for the length of this post, I just wanted to let you know that we were ok, and things went as well as they could do under the circumstances, after a major communications breakdown.

Sounds like a very eventful week, glad you got to the service eventually. Try enjoy your last few days now.
