Urgent Care?

So… we arrive at Disney in 12 days for a week, and my husband just cut his knee open, and got stitches that have to be removed in 14 days. We’re hoping they heal faster than expected and can be removed right before they leave.

If that doesnt happen, does anyone have recommendations for urgent care if similar at Disney? I saw https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/health-care-services-adventhealth/ but not really sure how it works.

We’ll be staying at the Poly and don’t have a car (but don’t mind taking an Uber).

Is there a service that makes in room calls?

And… this means no pool for him for the first two days of the trip😞

Also I’m not sure why he doesn’t have dissolving stitches 🤷‍♀️

I'd think the nurse at any first aid station in the parks could remove stitches. I'd ask at one of those to see if that's possible to avoid an urgent care fee if I could.

When I last had adventures with kitchen knives ;) and required a stitch in the palm of one hand, a nurse in my doctor's office removed it.

I think there is an Advent Health urgent care near the Disney complex or at least I feel like others have mentioned that on other threads.

Have you asked your doctor what they recommend your husband do? I’d start there.

Currently he’s checking in with them the night before we leave to see if they can be removed then. But it might be a little early.

Although I’m getting this all second hand, I’m just trying to make sure we have some sort of plan if we have to have them removed in Orlando or otherwise have to follow up.

Ask if they'll give you the tools to remove them yourself. My husband did that for my daughter when we went on a trip and had to remove her stitches while we were away. It was super easy.

Definitely buy a suture removal kit and do it yourself. Removing sutures is literally as easy as cutting the suture with pointy scissors and pulling it out with tweezers. Very very rarely, if you have left them in too long, then the top layer of skin grows over the suture and you have to dig them out.

Sharing my recent experience with urgent care: On Sunday, we needed to get a relatively simple test and prescription for a young member of the family. We went to AdventHealth and they even have an ED just for children. They were not at all busy, and the care was quick and simple. They even gave a nice Disney/Marvel goodie bag, which made him feel so happy and excited. For future trips, I feel at ease knowing that there is quality urgent care close to the property.

AdventHealth Centra Care Lake Buena Vista by Disney Springs worked well for my wife and her friend. The reviews on Google are rough but their experience was fine.

I didn't know that there was another nearby location! We went to AdventHealth Celebration.
