We are having a yard sale tomorrow to give us a bit more money for our trip to California on Monday. We found some ants near our garage this afternoon and my DH sprinkled some fire ant killer on the mound. We went to do a few things that needed to be done for tomorrow and came home. DH went into the garage to make a rack to hang clothes on. He took one section outside and came back in and finished the next section. After he took that out, he went to get changed and found that he had some of the powder on his shoes. He had stepped in it when he took the two parts of the rack outside. He realized he had tracked it into the house and the garage.

We have 7 cats and a dog. We are due to leave on Monday, myself, our daughter, granddaughter and DH. Now he says that he can't go because the cats might have gotten into it and could get sick.

We had been planning this trip all year. First we were going then the prices started going up and we weren't going. Then we found real good prices on Delta and he happened to sell a gun that he had. So that paid for our tickets.

I love our cats but I don't think he tracked in enough to make them sick. I have washed off their feet and he mopped the floor and vaccumed the rug where he might have tracked it to make sure that he got it all up.

I guess I will have to wait and see if he changes his mind.

I am just so upset that he would do this. I don't want to spend Christmas without him. This is our granddaughter's first Christmas. :sad2:

Okay vent over. Now it is a wait and see if the cats show any symptoms before we leave.

I think he is looking for excuses. Are you boarding the cats? Or do you have somebody coming in to care for them? Then if the cats get sick they will surely have your ok to take them to the vet. Go and have fun on your trip. . .and maybe ask your DH why he doesn't want to go and is looking for reasons to call it off. ;)

It's Friday. If the cats are going to get sick from this, you will know tomorrow. It's way too early to make a call based on this.

I agree if the cats are going to get sick it will happen fast. Keeping my fingers crossed for you:flower3:

Who is taking care of your pets? I am sure if they are going to get sick your petsitter will not just leave them sick, right?

Sounds like he does not want to go.:confused3

Call Poison Control. They handle calls about people AND pets. i have called them many times for my dog, Minky. You can tell them the name of the product and they can tell you how serious an ingestion might be.

Great suggestion. This might save the trip for the OP.

I agree with PPs. I think he doesn't want to go and is using this as an excuse.

I agree with everyone else;
if the cats get sick- you will know it before your trip.
I seriously doubt they get sick anyhow.
And your dh is looking for excuses not to go.

Let us know the end result!

We had a yard sale today (which got rained out part way through) and when we were counting the money, DH pulled out the original $60 that we had put in for change (small bills) and gave it to me for the person who will be taking care of all our furbabies.

My DD & I had to go exchange a jacket we got her for Christmas (gave it to her early for our trip - ended up being too small - was glad we gave it to her today instead of on Monday when we are leaving. We wanted her to have a new jacket for the trip) and she says to me on the way, "I guess Dad is going after all?" :confused3 I turned and said "I guess so. You know how he has those knee-jerk type of reactions." We both discussed it and figured he saw that he was quick to react and changed his mind.

I did some googling last night and found that with what little was tracked in, and us getting it cleaned up really fast, they shouldn't have any trouble. Plus I took the ones I knew to have been in that area and washed their feet. (now have scratches on one arm from my Tinker). I told DH about what I had found, so since we are seeing no type of reactions at all, he is going.

He does this type of thing every once in awhile. Something goes wrong and he makes a real quick, irrational decision. We have only ever spent one Christmas apart since we have been married. I really didn't want to spend our grand-daughter's first Christmas apart.

Just glad everything is back on track. Thank you for all your good thoughts. I am so glad I have a place that I can just vent if I want too. :lovestruc

I hope that your husband has decided to join the rest of you on the trip that you have worked so hard to plan.:flower3:

Everything is working out great. :thumbsup2 We are all set to go tomorrow afternoon. The cats & dog are fine - no problems at all.

I am so glad that he realized that he was making a hasty decsion and changed his mind.

Can't wait to go tomorrow. My mom can't wait to see her new great-granddaughter. :lovestruc

My DH loves going out to visit with my parents & my brother. He also loves talking to my Uncle. If my sister had been going out to CA, then I could see his motive for not wanting to go. They do not get along at all. But thankfully she will not be out there. Shoot, even I don't like spending any more time with my sister than I have too. She is one of "Those" sisters - the type that think they know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING! :snooty::lmao:

Thank you for all the good thoughts.
