This may be silly but I was reading some Disney history recently and as some of you may know Disney had its first character Oswald the Rabbit "stolen" from them by a fellow named of Charles Mintz. The bad guy in UP is named Charles Muntz. Anyone think that was a fun little dig by the guys at Pixar? Probably not but when I saw the name Mintz in my readings I though that name really sounds familiar. Anyway just a thought.

Hm, I'm not sure. Could be, since they just add so many small details like that to their movies that only a couple people catch. But Muntz didn't really steal anything, so I don't think that they would make their names so similiar.

The connection wouldn't surprise me at all.

I really doubt that Disney still holds a grudge against Mintz due to the wild popularity of the Mouse and since Walt is no longer with us, since he would have a right to be mad at Mintz.

Charles Muntz struck me as a cross between aviator Paul Mantz and industrialist (also aviator and eventually bizarre recluse) Howard Hughes.

But I realize Charles Muntz is just a fictional character.

Thank-you for that bit of information. Mantz even looks a little like Muntz. But, when I saw the film Muntz reminded me of aviator Charles Lindbergh.

(1) Both had the first name Charles.

(2) Lindbergh begins with L, while Muntz begins with M, which is the letter in the alphabet next to L.

(3) And Lindbergh had the "Spirit of St. Louis," while Muntz had the "Spirit of Adventure."
