UPS leaving Packages outside the Door

UPS usually leaves things in between my doors (I have a storm door as well as the front door). If it won't fit, they push it up to the building, next to the railing, so it can't easily be seen. But one day a few weeks ago, when it was pouring rain, all day, I came home late and found a package sitting right smack in the middle of my steps, like they'd just thrown it there. It was a book I'd ordered and the cardboard was completely soaked. I'm surprised the book wasn't ruined.

This just happened to me before Christmas. I ordered 2 new phones from Cingular and Cingular told me that UPS would deliver w/ signature required. Well, the box arrived on my doorstep and when I got home from work (2 hours later) it was empty. The bottom had been punched in and both phones were gone. I called Cingular and THEY replaced the phones. It turns out that Cingular did not "request" w/ UPS for signature on deliver so they were responsible. I spoke to UPS (had to file a report) and they actually came out and picked up the empty box for inspection.

My UPS guy is great. He makes every effort to conceal the packages he delivers. He will put them behind the house and move the grill so they can't be seen from the road.

I had a package that I sent and the woman said she never got it. I had to try and track it down and come to find out they had delivered it to the wrong house. An VACANT house!

You can pay for signature service with all the major carriers...no siggy--then they can leave it at your door. It is between you and the sender at that point.

Actually we have this with both UPS and FedEx, this is for free.
They wouldn't leave a package unless we designated (in writing) how we wanted packages handled. Very quick & easy to do. Our UPS guy is great too - knows I often have a napping toddler, and gently taps on the horn after he has left something if I don't answer the door. Never any problems.

We used to have a wonderful UPS driver...until my husband's Beagle jumped in his truck and would NOT get out. DH wasn't home and this dog does NOT listen to me. Sooo, we spent a few minutes trying to get him out and I finally got a treat and coaxed him out with that. He wasn't being aggressive or doing any damage....he just sat in the back, waggin' his tail, hoping to go "bye-bye". :o

Now our UPS driver won't ring the bell or knock on the door...he just drops it on the porch and leaves! :rotfl:

My UPS guy puts the package at the bottom of the stairwell near the garage. That works for me. The FedEx guy just leaves stuff on the front porch. Since I come in through the garage at the back of the house, sometimes I don't know it's there! I have to remind myself to check the front porch steps for stuff.

Can there be a "hold" put on UPS deliveries as is done with the daily mail? When we are in Florida in February I will probably be getting dance costumes delivered.

I don't want UPS to just leave them outside, which is what the normally do. I don't have a problem with it when I'm home, but when I'm gone for 10 days I don't want them sitting here.

I came home one day in October to find the steel garbage can we keep on the far side of our garage plunked right in front of our front door with a pumpkin sitting on top of it. There was a note in the mailbox from Canada Post saying that our parcel was in the "container" - on top of some garbage at that! Honestly, I thought at first it was some kind of prank.
