For any drivers out there - do you actually get stuff out of these porch baskets I've been seeing on social media? I'd love to put one out for our many deliveries, but I wasn't sure if they were well-received.

Never heard of such a thing. If I was a driver I would likely NOT take something from a basket on someone's porch.

I thought about it because I get a really insane amount of packages, but I just didn’t know how to make it practical. When I heard about it months ago, it was still a million degrees here so unless I put drinks in a cooler it was going to be so hot and gross. Then dealing with all the ice and emptying a cooler everyday seemed excessive. Plus our UPS doesn’t come until quite late like at the very end of the evening. Not that doing something nice isn’t worth an effort...it just seemed like something that played well for internet points but that didn’t necessarily translate to real life.

I’m curious as well.

Most items they deliver don't require a signature,so they just leave them by the door, sometimes they ring the doorbell but are gone by the time we get to the door, so you rarely even see them. I agree as mentioned above, doesn't seem practical and the delivery man isn't going to take things that happen to be sitting at the front door...........how they would they know they are for them vs. one of your neighbors? Things you see on social media may/may not be accurate.

Not sure if they are even allowed to have personal items in the vehicle due to regulations relating to theft of items being delivered.

During the holidays we received a lot of packages. I put out little bottles of water, gatorade, and packages of chips, cookies, cheese/crackers. I had a small plastic tub that I put on a coffee table with a sign that said thank you and please take a snack or two and something to drink. (I had seen that someone in our FB city group page did that and thought it was a good idea.) They didn't take any gatorade, but they did take the water and the snacks. I never noticed anyone being greedy about it. I did hear a few nice reactions that made me smile. After the holidays I didn't put out the snacks and water anymore.

I've put out snacks and drinks with a sign. I think most delivery people have taken one or both when I have it sitting out. I get a lot of packages too and appreciate their effort.

I’m not familiar with the snack baskets but I guess I’ve done something similar. Every year I put our leftover Halloween candy in a bowl by the front door with a sign telling delivery drivers to help themselves to as much as they want. It all disappears within a few days and my Ring doorbell has captured many a thank you from appreciative drivers.

I do not leave out little treats - but I have fixed treat bags for Valentine's, St. Patrick's, Easter, and Halloween and left them in the mailbox for our mail carrier.
For Christmas, I give our Mail Carrier and our UPS driver and our Trash Collector each $50.00 in a card with a note of appreciation written.
