Upgrading UT Park Hopper to WP&M?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I tried to research the answer. It is my understanding that to add the WP&M option to any park hopper ticket, the cost is $15. When I look at the UT ticket prices for example...a 5 day park hopper with WP&M is more than $15 over and above a 5 day park hopper ticket. Wouldn't it make more sense for my to purchase just the Park Hopper ticket from UT and then add the WP&M at Disney for just $15? Am I missing something?

Your understanding is incorrect.

I don't know the current cost, but you can find out by going to the Disney website and finding the difference between the cost of a 5 day ticket and a 5 day wp&m ticket. It's considerably more than $15.

It's about $15 to add an additional day to a ticket. That's probably where the confusion came from

Not, really, the park hopper plus is the new ticket that includes the water parks and it costs $15.97 more than a 5 day hopper at regular prices. And, if you saved money by buying it from UT, yes, upgrading at Disney is the way to go because they give you the full value of the hopper ticket even if you bought it at a discount.

5-Day - Adult PH Gate Price
$473.93

5-Day - Adult PH Plus Gate Price
$489.90

You're right. Somehow I missed that the OP was talking about upgrading a park hopper and not a base ticket.

The price can depend on if the UT tickets are sold from a stock of tickets minted prior to Feb. 12, 2017.
The price increase of Feb. 12 brought with it some considerable and convoluted changes in upgrade procedures.

Is there a difference in bridging UT tickets minted prior to Feb 12, 2017 and after?

Yes.
Upgrading can cost considerably more for the older tickets.

Click in my signature for "All About Tickets" and scroll to the Upgrades section for more info.

Does anyone know if the UT tickets somehow designate when they were purchased so I know ahead of time what value I would be getting for an upgrade?

In your MDE account, what date does the ticket expiration date say?

Sorry for the hijack, but I use a convoluted way to look for expiration dates (namely, start transferring the ticket and it will show up). Is there another way to look at/for expiration dates? Thanks!

I don't actually have the tickets yet. I was trying to determine how many days to purchase and whether I could add WP&M as an upgrade. So I was trying to get all my ducks in a row before deciding exactly which ticket I was going to purchase.

Yes, you can add the option. Focus on the "save $xx" amount on the UT website. That's your savings. Choose the ticket with the most savings that will meet your needs, then add any additional days or options when you get to Disney World.

I don't believe UT is selling any of the older ticket stock anymore, so I wouldn't worry about the difference in price bridging now.

They were within the last 2-3 weeks.
That's why I brought it up.
