Upgrading to CL at check in at GCH?

Anyone done this or asked to do this in the past year or so? (No, not a free upgrade, I mean to pay the difference).

A friend did but it was several years ago. I wasn't sure if they still did this, if available. Also, the approximate cost - is it the full difference between rack rates? Thanks!

I would think the CL rooms would be based on availability and I have heard it was at least $200/night. I am sure other will chime in and I would give them a call just to be sure.

Giving them a call kinda defeats the purpose of waiting to check on availability until we check in, doesn't it? I am looking for personal experiences based on the parameters of my first post, but thanks for answering. I can always go by my friend's info, but as I said, not sure it's current.

I am not sure if they are allowed to negotiate "real time" deals based on current occupancy.....I would enjoy knowing also. I know They did it for us once at Hard Rock hotel at Universal, and it was just an extra$60 a night, which I know was a deal. We took it in a heartbeat since even with just the 3 of us, it was easy to justify $20 a head in food alone.

I will inquire and report back though it will be awhile until I go. It seems like they are tightening the leeway that the front desk has to negotiate CL upgrades at WDW, for sure, so it might be the same at DLR hotels too (though so many things are different so who knows?)

This is correct. I just made ressies recently for December and was told access to the lounge would be $150 + taxes (approx. $200/night) and that I would have to wait until we check in to confirm. Kind of a bummer because the last two times we've gone you could confirm "concierge" at time of booking.

Yes, I think this rule may be for larger rooms, only. I believe you can still confirm it with a single room but when you have larger parties (we have 4adults/3 children) it is "first come, first served" for the 1/2/3BR suites.

Really?? This is odd..they can't book you into a suite guaranteed? That would really mess people up, I'd think. When I called to book CL with my DVC developer points MS didn't act like there'd be a problem booking a suite (just didn't have enough points)...but just because you book a suite doesn't mean you have Concierge, right? I had a friend who stayed in a suite and they didn't have lounge access.

If CL suites are not confirmed reservations, they are available for VIP's who arrive with little or no notice.

You can confirm a suite at time of booking just not the CL. I had a 2BR Artisan Suite reserved and even though it is a "suite" they told me that CL would not be confirmed until we checked in (guess they don't want to overcrowd the lounge). The 4 premium suites do come with CL automatically though.

How many points were the suites? Is it possible to get concierge access with the suites?

It seems they were around 70 points..I got CL for 40 something points..it was 126 for three nights.

You can always add concierge with the suites for $150+ tax. They just cannot add it when they make the reservation. The front desk will confirm if you do or do not want it when you check in and add the charge at that time.

The concierge rooms are a different story. These can be booked and confirmed at the time you make your reservation. There are different rates for the regular rooms and the concierge rooms and if you upgrade to concierge at check in you pay the difference between the two. This can be as little as $200/night + tax with a non-discounted rate. However, the regular rooms sometimes get a much deeper discount than the concierge rooms. The current military discount for instance is as much as 40% on regular rooms but ends up being only about 10% for concierge or suites. There are no deals to be had on concierge rooms, the front desk cannot negotiate on it nor will you get it as a complimentary upgrade. Furthermore, they will only do concierge for the concierge rooms, you cannot add it to a regular room. If the concierge rooms are sold out, then no more concierge.

If you are interested in a concierge room, it is much better to book it in advance than wait to do so at check in.
