We have 10 day PH passes on our package and I'm planning on upgrading to APs when we arrive. I've seen people recommend that you use your tickets at least once before doing so. Why is that? Also, I had a MM photo pass on my package. Should I drop that before my 45 day mark? Or will that expense be credited to our APs?

Any other info/opinions gladly welcomed!!!

1. It's an internal Disney bookkeeping thing. Pkg. tickets are considered "discounted,"
so, if you USE them at least once, they will THEN be considered as though you had
purchased them as full-price tickets and that full-price amount will be
credited to you in the upgrade transaction.
(My short answer is, "Just do it. It'll save you money.")

2. Yes.
3. Unknown. Less hassle if you do it now vs. an attempt to "trade it" later.
