Upgrading to a Preferred room after booking-with Summer Dining Plan

So I booked an early June trip, using All Star Movies and we have a standard room. After investigating, I realize we will be far away from the bus stop/pool/food/....well, everything. When I try to go online to maybe look at upgrading to a preferred room, it makes me scrap our "Summer Meal Offer" and go with something else. Obviously, I don't want to do that. Do you think if I call, I'd have any shot at upgrading or do they have access to the same things I do?

Thanks!

1. Maybe. You don't know until check-in.
Even if you are at some distance, it will be far, far shorter a walk than doing anything at the parks.
2. Yes.

A word of warning: if you have light sleepers, don't book a preferred room.

We drive down. And at Pop, we prefer the outside rooms closer to the parking lot. I'd rather haul myself to the bus on MK and DHS days than haul my luggage all the way to the preferred rooms. Of course if you're flying in and using magical express, your results may vary. Movies has a little bit better parking situation next to one of the premium buildings than does pop though.

We just got home from a stay at Sports and couldn't believe how short the walk was from our standard room (Building 8) to lobby and bus stop. Also if you are driving this building is super close to parking.

Robo, great comment about walking!! The walk to the value resort bus stops from the parks or especially Disney Springs is LONG!!!

Thanks everyone. I just called and there's no preferred available at Movies, just Sports. Bummer, oh well. Guess it'll be more quiet and maybe not as far as I think it'll be. Anyone have success use touringplans to help with getting a decent room?

I've read to request mighty ducks section as it is very close to music's food court. Plus mighty ducks has its pool.

Movies didn’t qualify for the dinning plan, glad you scored on that.
I’m at Sports and I couldn’t get my HA room type in a preferred with the meal plan, only a standard but it’s such a stress relief to have the meal plan! So I’m good

It's the quick service summer dining plan, if that matters.
