upgrading to a 10 day ticket question?

In October 2005, I purchased 7 day tickets. The tickets had 3 days remaining on them so I paid to have them not expire. My question is, when I go back next month, can I upgrade these tickets to a 10 day ticket for the difference in price from a 7 day to a 10 day? Which is only about $6 a ticket. The CM told me when I turned them into non-expiry to be sure and upgrade them to 10 day tickets on my next visit. Can this be too good to be true?

From what I understood, you can upgrade but only get the value of the portion not used. You would calculate the worth by taking the ticket price and dividing it by 7 then you can see what each day cost. You would subtract the the worth of the three days left and that is what they will credit toward another ticket. It would be great if you could get full credit for the ticket, but I don't think you can if you used some of it already, IF I understand it right.

If you had added the three days before you returned from your previous vacation (the ticket not used more than 14 days ago) the total cost of the three additional days would have been less. Note that, for a non-expiring pass, adding the 8'th day costs $50., the ninth day $24., and the tenth day two dollars.

As it stands now you are better off buying a new ticket for your entire next vacation and saving the old ticket for a time when you are using only leftovers.

I have 7 day NExp tickets from a previous vacation with 3 days left on them. Is it possible to upgrade from 7 to 10 when we return. This would give me 6 park days.

If this is indeed possible, will they also charge me the difference for the price of a 7day no exp. VS a 10 day no exp. ?

The no expiration option for a 7 day ticket is less than a 10 day ticket....

Am I being clear?

To the OP, sorry I kinda interfered with your subject....

Thanks to both of you for your response. The link to the Disney hints was very informative, I could never find the answer to my question. What was I thinking, the answer to ANY Disney question just needs to be asked here. The three days we have remaining will be perfect for this trip. We will use those and just purchase new the next time. I just like having tickets with remaining days laying around coz it makes me think I need to be planning our next trip. See I am addicted, I am thinking about future visits and I haven't even gone on my June trip yet.

Can you upgrade? No. Can you get a credit for the unused portion of the ticket? Yes. I don't mean to be nitpicky, but the guest relations folks are nit picky, and if you ask about an upgrade, they'll tell you no. Only unused tickets, and tickets within 14 days after the first use can be upgraded.

You would get a credit for the remaining 3 days. The credit you get would be a relatively small amount. Disney does not value each day the same. The first days on your ticket cost the most. If your ticket had hopping, in a best case scenario, you'd only get about $54. In a worst case scenario, you'd get about $15. (Those figures are in NO way official - only guest relations can tell you the monetary value of your ticket!!!!!)

I would save your days for a shorter trip and buy a new piece of admission for this trip.

JM(NS)HO, but if you have the funds available during your upcoming trip, I'd purchase tickets for your future trip then. Remember, ticket prices increase at least once a year, and add-on prices do as well. Last year, it cost $30 to upgrade to a hopper, $40 to upgrade to a "plus", $70 for the combined feature and $100 to upgrade a ten-day pass to non-expiring*. This year, the prices are $35, $45, $80 and $135, respectively.

*cost of non-expiring option varies according to number of days on original pass; all other options one price across the board.

Only unused tickets, and tickets within 14 days after the first use can be upgraded.
This is something I've been having trouble remembering... Is it an absolute, now? There is no way to upgrade (add days to a ticket) ANY ticket, after 14 days after first use?

Maybe I'm just getting confused with "add-ons" -- you can add park hopping to a pass months later, right? such as if you have 3 days left on a 7 day pass, you can pay about $40 and it becomes a park hopper. Right?

I have an email from Disney (which I will take with me on the next trip) which says I can ADD the plus feature (waterparks, etc) to my partially used, non-expiring 10 day ticket.
BTW- the 10 day non-expiring ticket was an upgrade from a 5 day expiring ticket, spent 2 days and then upgraded to a 10 day non-expiring, upgrade cost $116. I do regret forgetting to add the plus feature last Oct because now it will cost me $5 more.(Jan 06 price increase)

I'm guessing this is some extra pixie dust for you personally in response to a letter you wrote describing how you forgot to add water park fun.

Alternatively, maybe water park fun and hopping can indeed be added much later.

One thing I am not sure of is whether the number of plusses you get when adding water park fun later depends on the number of days originally on the pass or the number of days remaining, or whether the number of plusses you get depends on the original number of days only if the pass hadn't been used more than 14 days ago.

Upgrading means that Disney will credit you the full amount they were paid for the ticket towards new admission. If you purchased from a discount broker, you would get a credit in the amount that the broker paid Disney for the ticket - not what you paid the broker. This can only be done with unused MAGIC YOUR WAY tickets, and with tickets whose first use was less than 14 days ago.

Credits for partially used admission can be done to any MAGIC YOUR WAY ticket that has the non-expiration option and it has been more than 14 days since the first use.

Add-ons fall into neither category. Add ons mean you're adding non-expiration, park hopping, or water park fun and more. Whether or not add-ons can be purchased after the 14 day window from first use has passed, I don't know. Ifyou've got it from Disney that it can be done, bonus! :)

Any ticket that is NOT a Magic Your Way ticket cannot be touched for upgrades or credits. It must be used as is.

Okay, and this is the residual value stuff... worth just a handful of dollars, generally...

This is from a prior thread and from GoldenOldie:
Quote:
You can add features such as park hopping to nonexpiring tickets at a later date but you must pay the additional feature for the total amount of days (spent and unspent) on the ticket.

Correct. With the MYW tickets, Disney does not consider adding the options (PH or WPF&M) as an upgrade. You can add these options to a non-expiring ticket after the 14 day window at the same flat rate ($40 for PH, $50 for WPF&M) that you would have paid had you added them in the first place.

GoldenOldie, Are you out there?

So if I understand this correctly. I CANNOT add days (on my previously used MYW no exp.) park ticket but I CAN add plus options.

Is this right?

Yes.

That's right. You could get a monetary credit and use it towards a whole new piece of admission. But you'd lose out financially.

For some reason a lot of people seem to think the MYW tickets are like a phone card - that you can add days to them and use days over and over. Just not true! I wish I knew where this idea comes from.

As far as I know you can't "add" days after the 14-day limit. All you can do is take the remaining cash value and apply it toward a new ticket.

Someone who actually did it please chime in -- As far as I know, dollar value tradeup of MYW to MYW is prorated (still not all that great* an exchange rate) while tradeup of MYW to AP is short rated, the last few days having much less value than the first few.

* You must purchase non-expiration, since non-expiration is exploited on tickets used more than 14 days ago. Also unused water park fun admissions do not carry forward, and you must purchase water park fun if you had and used it on the old ticket.
