Upgrading tickets purchased as part of package?

The kids and I are going to Universal for the first time in April, using one of the Harry Potter packages (staying on-site and getting park tickets). We've decided to return to Orlando as a family in July; I'm guessing (hah! I know!) that they'll want to return to IOA and introduce Dad to all the coasters.

My question - can I upgrade the 3-day tickets purchased for myself and 2 kids to APs while I am there in April? That would be the most cost-effective. Then buy Dad a ticket separately for the July trip. Will this work?

Yes that is no problem. Just bring your tickets to guest services before they expire.
