if we upgraded our tickets when we got there how can we get our discounts on merchandise and food? DO you get something immediately to prove you have an annual pass? I know probably a stupid question

Well... you get an annual pass.
You get a card as well as its linked to your MDE. The card, which is also your pass, is what's needed for discounts.

Yes, they print up an annual pass card with your name on it, and give it to you on the spot! Enjoy!

You get a virtual annual pass linked to your MDE account, and you get a plastic AP discount card that officially needs to be presented to receive AP discounts, but in practice is not always requested.
