Upgrading PHP to AP?

My DH got a 4 Day PHP pass from Hilton Honors with points he accumulated on his Hilton Honors card.

I know you can upgrade passes, at WDW, but would he be able to do that with this type of pass since it didn't cost him anything?

We are going in early December and again next October or November (I'm getting an AP w/DVC discount)

You won't know until you are at WDW. The ticket must be scanned by Guest Relations to see what the value is. Some tickets like that are complimentary and not worth anything for upgrading. Others, the issuing company pays Disney a wholesale price for and the ticket will be worth that. But there's no way of knowing which one you have until it's been scanned at GR.
