How does it work if you want to upgrade a hopper pass to a AP?

I understand that the (new) pass will expire on the first date the you used the old one. And that you must upgrade before the passes experation date. Do you just go to guest services and pay the difference between the actual cost of the pass and the cost of the new one? Can you get the disney club discount on the new pass (if one exists?)

What about upgrading a deluxe AP to a premium?

What I am thinking of doing is purchasing AAA hoppers before we leave for Disneyland. Then upgrading them to deluxe AP's (maybe a premium for me for the parking) our last day. Since the AAA passes include the free breakfast and ulimited FP I thought this would be the way to go. I am not sure if we will need the premium AP's it all depends on whether we come down Christmas/New Years week, which is blackout for the deluxe. If we do come that week, I would have to upgrade them (again) to the premium.

All of your *guesses* on how to upgrade are correct. I would upgrade on the last day of oyur visit. I'm not sure if their is a Disney Club discount on DL AP's. In terms of upgrading from deluxe to AP, I think they just charge you the difference between the two and you keep the same expiration date. I'm not positive though.
And let me give you the obligatory warning about the crowds between Christmas and New Years. Not even a John Stamos sighting would get me there. ;)

Thanks for your reply and your warning. I know that the crowds are outrageous during that time. Unfortunetly, I can only go when the kids are out of school, so that means having to deal with crowds.
