Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade a park hopper for an AP and still get the DVC discount? We are going in January and anticipate getting park passes from our folks as Christmas presents; however, we will probably be going back before a year is up and would really need APs. Any information is greatly appreciated. TIA!

It shouldn't be any problem. Be sure to bring your blue DVC member card and a photo ID with you.

We have done this twice, not a problem. My friend tried to just this past May, and forgot her DVC card, and she was out of luck!!! So, make sure you have it.

Do you just visit the Customer Centers in DTD?

I have done it at both the DTD guest serices and at a park and found the DTD location to be quicker and easier. We usually get to DTD the first day we are there so it is not out of the way to do it that way. If you are doing a park the day you want to do the upgrade it is easy to do it at the customer service window but sometimes the lines are longer.

We were there in October and upgraded our passes at the member services office just inside the gate at Hollywood studios with no problem at all. We had ordered our park hopper passes online and thought it was interesting that we had a nice credit card type pass and traded it for an annual pass that is paper! What's that about?

The same thing happened to us (upgraded at the Guest Services booth at Epcot's International Gateway). The "key to the world" hotel room key has to be plastic, but I'm not sure why the annual passes are paper. Granted, with a photo ID getting another would be a piece of cake, but I expected them to be on something a bit more durable.

APs are not paper, they are a composite similar to mylar or tyvek. They are next to impossible to tear. They arecheaper to replace when someone forgets or loses their AP. I've only had one not work properly over the years, and that was after it got thoroughly drenched. People traveling with us, on the other hand, had to get their room keys replaced several times.
