I've seen numerous people here state that it's better when upgrading MYW tix to annual passes, to do it on your last day. What is the benefit of doing it that way? If you do it on your last day, does the AP becoome active that day, or since you still have that last day on your MYW ticket active, does it simply go into "hold" status and not become active until your next visit...therefore giving you 365 days from your future visit date, rather than from your current visit date?

Also, we're interested in the Gold AP. We won't be doing the Christmas/New Year's or spring break thing, so the Gold Pass works for us. I'm assuming that the upgrade price will be for the full amount of the Gold Pass for the first year...or rather the difference in the full price and the MYW ticket price...then the renewal price thereafter, correct?

When upgrading to an annual pass, your expiration date is supposed to be based on the date you first used your ticket. But some CM's make a mistake and base it on the current date. So, there shouldn't be any difference in doing it on your last day, but you might get lucky.

On the other hand, on the last day, you should know best if the upgrade is actually worth it. Like there's no reason to upgrade a 7 day pass to a 10 day pass on the first day; wait until you know you're going to use it. Wait until the last day, and you might have changed your mind about the annual pass.

If you upgrade on your first day, you can use the AP discounts for your whole trip.

Yes, the first year you upgrade, you pay the full price of the DVC Gold AP. The next year, you get the renewal price.

The reason some are doing it that way this year is that part or most of their trip is during the blackout days and they want to go to the park and upgrade to use during non-blackout the rest of the year.
