I have called several Disney lines trying to get an answer - no luck! I want to upgrade from 4 day to 5 day hoppers. I purchased all these passes within the last 8 months - I just want to know how they figure the balance you owe when upgrading - is it the advanced purchase price or will it cost me more $$$? If anyone has done this recently please drop me a line - I am feeling frustrated as I have not been able to get my questions answered and none of the folks I have talked to seem to know where to find the answer - even the ticket office will not give me a contact or phone number that will help - just trying to stay within budget Thanks

The only place(s) you can upgrade are considered on site.

While I am not 100% positive, I am reasonably certain that you will have to pay the gate price for the 5 day hoppers. If so, you will have to pay the difference between what you actually paid for the (unused) 4 day hoppers and the gate price of the 5 day pass.

Susie-
When we were faced with the same dilemma as you a few years ago, we did this: we purchased 1 aditional 4-day hopper, and all 4 members of our family used it for 1 day each.It had a different design on it than our previously purchased 4-day hoppers, so we could easily identify it, and the person using the new hopper simply left their original hopper in the safe so as not to confuse it at the gate. We purchased this pass on-line before we left getting a better discount than the DC. Also, when 1 member of our family had 1 less day to use on a pass than the rest of us on another trip, we picked 1 day that we would not "hop" between parks(like our MK day is usually a long day at that park), and purchased a 1-day/1-park ticket for that person. I would suggest doing this if there is less than 4 members in your party needing to add a day. Do the math and see if either of these options will save you a few $.

My understanding is that they will scan the tickets and figure out what you paid for them. Then you will pay the difference between what you paid and the cost of the new pass. So if a you paid $135 for the 4 day and the 5 day is $155, you would pay $20 for the upgrade.

**note the prices used were soley for deminstration, not to reflect actual prices

I upgraded 4 day to 5 day hoppers in Jan 2002. I went to guest services in Downtown Disney as I was staying off site. Tickets must be upgraded within a certain time period from their first use (around 5 days). Yes, they knew what I had paid for the tickets (I got them at TDS with a Disney Club discount). Ticket prices had not increased since my original purchase. If ticket prices had increased, this would have not been a wise investment. I actually paid a difference of less than $25 a ticket! At that time they did apply my Disney club discount discount to the upgraded tickets. That policy may have changed with the new advance purchase requirement for discounted Disney club ticket purchases. I did this with 9 tickets! Good luck.

So, I can use the pass for a day or so then upgrade if I need to? Will they apply a AAA or AMEX (if there is one) discount to the balance that I owe?

I would call guest services in DD to get specifics as Disney tends to change policies frequently. Sorry I don't know their telephone number.

To the best of my knowledge the only discount is a Disney Club Discount. It is a good ivestement (if you don't already have one) if you are going to buy 2 or more AP's. The discount is $20 per pass the club card is #39.95. However, you must buy the DC Card before 12/12/02 because this is the last date to purchase or reknew (the club is closing 12/31/03).
