Decided to buy hopper passes first now we don't have to show them on check in at HoJo's - and then upgrading to DAP's. I have a couple of questions

1. If we buy the 6 day passes (pay for 4 and get 2 free re online offer) - so we can have the flexiblity of when we do the MM - can we upgrade the passes on the first or second day (instead of waiting till the 6 days is up) - as ideally we want to do MM on our first or second day unless we are too tired after the long flight

2. If we waited a few days to upgrade , do they date the DAP's on the day you upgrade as opposed to the first day you used your original hopper pass? I ask this because the advantage of upgrading later will be we may have a chance of squeezing another trip out of the DAP's before they run out in early July 2011. Of course the sonner we upgrade the sooner we can enjoy our discounts on our Disney meals.

You can upgrade your PH passes anytime up until they expire or are used up, even on the 6th (or last) day. From my understanding, they will mark the AP's as starting on the first day you used the PH passes that you are upgrading, so you won't get any advantage in days by waiting. Just be sure to use your MM before you upgrade or you will lose that.

Your AP is definitely back-dated to the first day you used the hopper, so upgrade when you want--as long as there are no DAP blockout dates after you upgrade. Whenever you upgrade, it won't make a difference as far as your expiration date.

If it helps at all, I believe you technically get 366 days on your AP, since if your effective date is 6/19 (like ours was; that was the first day we entered the parks in 2009) it also expires on 6/19 of the following year, and I'm almost positive they let you in on that day. So we could've gone from 6/15-6/19/10, if we wanted to, for our third trip (purchasing a blockout ticket on 6/19 since it was a blocked day for DAPs).

I am doing the same thing as you, staying at HoJo's, buying a 6 day pass and upgrading to AP's while there. Are you sure you don't have to show them upon check in at HoJo's. I called twice and asked and they said I had to show them upon check in. So I had to book the entertainment card rate, which was the same, and buy that card. They said, the only time you don't have to have your AP is when you have purchased it online, and don't have the actual card yet, but you have to show your receipt of purchase at check in.

I'm confused now.:confused3

I asked this question on these boards a couple of weeks ago and given a link to the HoJo Anaheim form where there is a message from the General Manager

Hi Q.E.:

Well, we've thought it over and decided to simplify things for everybody! Here's our new official HoJo policy:

The Annual Pass may be presented at any time (including checkout), and the discount rate will be applied to all nights in which the discount is eligible. If the reservation was booked at a different rate or discount and the AP is presented at check-out or during the stay, then the discount applied will be based on the AP discount (either the 20% or the ~50%) which was available on the date of arrival.

I hope this helps to clarify things! See you soon.

Jonathan Whitehead
General Manager

When did you call them as this was posted on May 31st?

This is exactly what I was afraid of - turning up in the evening with Hopper passes and being confronted by a front desk person who didn't know the rules.

Excellent!! Thanks so much for that reply. I have been on vacation for all of June, so probably did not see that post on May 31st. I booked my room a couple months ago, so probably before (hopefully) all the staff knew the policy. Now I can change my rate from entertainment card to AP, assuming it is still available, and not have to worry about buying a card.

I'm so glad I read your post. Thanks Again!!

No problem - I would have thought you could easily change to AP rate by phoning them. I originally booked the Entertainment rate and switched to AP rate. No doubt you will be asking the question again when you phone them - let me know if you have any problems (with staff understanding the new policy). I am taking the printout of the post (just in case) as I find that management decisions aren't always fully communicated to those on the front line. :rolleyes1

I am planning on phoning them Monday to switch to AP. And I will ask them again, to make sure the policy is being comunicated to res agents. I will let you know if I have any problems. Thanks Again!!

Well, remember, when you're calling the local Anaheim number during business hours, you're asking to speak to the *in house* reservations people. Those are the ones right there, at the hotel, right near the management.
