Upgrading Discount Parkhopper Tickets to APs?

Before I go forward with this, I want to check if I am forgetting anything. I bought DLR tickets a number of years from Getaway Today. Usually I buy thru Ares. If I buy the GAT tickets (better price at the moment), they said they send a hard 3 day park hopper. I want to use this on day 1 to get the Magic Morning then upgrade it to a DAP. I do not recall if I have done this exact thing before but want to understand if there is any reason I might encounter an issue doing this on my first day at DLR?

I have had no issue with it and I have done it twice this year for part of my family and then again when my youngest turned 3.

Hi Hidroguy.... You should not have any issue.. I've done this plenty of times. I normally buy the 5 Day passes with the best price around (Free day offer, discount, or ebates rebate) , and then do exactly as you said, I use the Magic Morning and later that day i upgrade to a Annual Passport. You will have to pay the difference from the upgrade, but usually Disney uses the top value of the ticket so you still get to keep your savings..


BTW the best prices right now for tickets are at LMTclub.. I haven't bought myself yet, but It's on my to do list. But many other DISers have recommended LMTclub.

Current prices for 3 day PH I see at LMTclub are $281.70 adult $270.97 child

5 day PH $294.59 adult $281.97 child

This is what we did. Bought 5 day hoppers from LMTC and upgraded to passes at the gate before even using them. Saved $50 on each AP because of the discounted hopper.

Have done this before with a 3-days the in laws bought for us as part of a package. No problem on first day. We just did the upgrade inside at guest services.

That is good to know I can use guest services. I was planning to exit and go out to the ticket booths.

I'm also planning to do a 5 day hopper upgrade to AP in July. I'm guessing that once I upgrade to AP's we'll lose our MM...correct? We can't use it until our last day and would like to upgrade for discounts on the first day.

You definitely want to upgrade early to get the discounts on food and merchandise. So you will have to trade that off vs. the Magic Morning.

Also, be careful about blockout days unless you are buying SAPs. One of the other reasons to buy regular park tickets and then convert to AP is you can use those tickets on AP blockout days. If you upgrade to DAP like me, you can't use those on most Saturdays and days around certain holidays. You would not want to upgrade to a DAP only then to realize it is blocked out one of your planned park days.

Thanks for the tips...our first day is Saturday the 15th arriving around 10am so we'll upgrade after entering and from what I've read be ok for the rest of that day. I think the discounts are gonna win out over MM. With 5 days and more upcoming trips i think we'll get everything in regardless. The discount will be nice for BB MSEP or hopefully F!, assuming it'll work for packages??

You and I seem to be on the same schedule...we were in the parks last June on the same days also...promise I'm not stalking!! Enjoy D23!
