Upgrading Dining Plan

Hi all,

I booked a couple of weeks ago to go back to WDW in 2017 and got the free quick-service at Caribbean Beach Resort.

However I've worked out that because of my special dietary requirements it would be worth it to upgrade to the Deluxe Dining plan (would actually be less money than I spent on food last year).

Does anyone know if I will be able to add it onto my current package or am I better off cancelling this one and then just rebooking it with the deluxe dining plan. That would also give me the chance to swap from Caribbean Beach to Coronado Springs without too much hassle.

Thanks oh Disney Gods oh so full of wisdom! :worship::worship::worship:

Do you mean the regular dining plan? Deluxe is three table service meals a day. Either way I'd ring rhem up but price it online first so you know what it should be costing you. I upgraded to regulate dining from QS at Caribbean Beach for our next trip but I did it when I booked.

If you've booked direct just give them a call and they add the upgrade and change the resorts for you, you won't get charged as it will cost more ;)

Yes I did mean the Deluxe because I don't eat Q-S at all because of my dietary requirements. I priced it up and it is less to upgrade than what I spent on food/snacks on my last trip of the same length. I shall give them a ring tomorrow and see what they say.

Yep you can add it if you booked direct, or via another TA

How many of you are there, it's not that more expensive to book AKL or WL with full dining plan and upgrade to the Deluxe than book CBR or CSR and go from a QS to DX, obviously depends on numbers and time of year but you may want to ask, we did it last time we went and stayed at the AKL, (we did book a savannah view so that added to the cost a bit more :) but you may have more willpower than us )

I just went through the process online to double check the costs of everything and all the hotels have gone WAY up in price for the time I have booked. Seriously, CBR is now costing as much as my entire package and the upgrade cost for the dining plan when staying at AKL (which is free regular dining plan) is even higher than it was when upgrading from CBR last week.

Is it because it's a weekend? Or has Disney just hiked their prices generally? Definitely won't be able to afford the upgrade with these numbers :sad2:

I also have a package booked under free dining at the Caribbean Beach. It has gone up £100 but the regular dining plan upgrade still costs the same. For me the room has gone up £100. Glad I've booked early if that's their game.

Yeh for me the room alone is coming up at £2900ish for CBR which is how much the package AND the upgrade to the Deluxe dining plan was last week. Think I'll give it a couple of days and see if next week it drops back down.

Either way I am kicking myself for not ringing them during the week like I planned

Edit: Please ignore me, apparently I searched the cost for 4 weeks instead of two....no wonder it had gone up so much :worship:

Can I be cheeky and ask what your requirements are. My husband is GF and said he ate better in 2 weeks on DDP than he ever has previously or since. The staff at the QS restaurants were great as soon you you mention an intolerance and always had an alternative available (albeit he was a bit sick of GF brownies after 14 nights!)

Of course you can! :teeth: I had an operation on my stomach a couple of years ago so there are many foods I find it really difficult to eat including: bread, pasta, leafy greens, most meat (I'm fine with fish), beans...the list goes on :sad2: I can also only eat small amounts at a time and it takes me ages to do it. I can't even eat gluten-free alternatives because my difficulty is the consistency of food and the ability to chew it enough to make it small enough to swallow. QS just don't offer the types of food I can eat and if they do it's usually something I don't like haha

We've not upgraded a dining plan, but we decided to upgrade from POR to AK and when we called Disney they upgraded us at the price it would have cost us if we'd booked that originally. As in, the price is locked in. The lady we spoke to said that was the standard, so it should still work out for you. Fingers crossed x

Have you considered a villa at Saratoga or Old Key West? I don't think the one bedrooms are really that much more than a moderate. You could order groceries from Garden Grocer and have some flexibility.

I don't think the one bedrooms are really that much more than a moderate.

that will depend on how many are in OP's party

2 adults at CBR + upgrade to DDP for 2 weeks in sept (not including tickets) : £2300
1 bedroom at OKW : £3600

that's a huge difference.

4 adults at CBR, same dates and options : £2700

that's still around or over £1k more to book a 1 bedroom at OKW/SSR (roughly between £70 and £100 more per night)

OKW and SSR are a good deal and come out cheaper or same as a moderate when going for a deluxe studio vs. a top tier moderate (e.g. 2 weeks POR-pool 2 adults +upDDP : £2400 vs. Deluxe Studio free DDP : £2670)
in such cases a Deluxe Studio is cheaper than a moderate
