Upgrading Costco Park Hoppers

I am thinking of a trip to Disneyland VERY soon.

I wanted to buy some annual passes through Costco but they aren't selling them now and I dont think they will reissue them before we decide to go (maybe as early as the next 2 weeks). SO I was thinking of buying some Costco 4 day park hoppers so I dont have to put the annual pass money out all at one time (It really adds up when you have 5 people to buy for).

How does upgrading work? When do I have to upgrade by? Before I use all the days? And how much do they credit you towards the annual pass? I have heard that they credit you the full gate purchase price but I wasn't sure. And I am assuming that the annual pass would start on the first day you used the pass not from when you upgrade.

Thanks for any info!!

Would love to know the answer to this too - I didn't know that Costco sold discounted passes at all:confused3

It depends on which AP you're upgrading to. If you're not worrying about blackout dates you can upgrade the first day you use your AP, BUT AP's do not have MM so if you're wanting to use the MM and you're staying off site then wait and upgrade after you've used the MM. They credit you what you paid, not the full gate price. WDW credits the full gate price after you've used your ticket once but DLR can tell what you've paid and that's what you are credited for. The AP backdates to the first date you've used your hoppers, so if you use your hoppers first on 9-29 and you upgrade on 10-2 then your AP will expire on 9-29-2010. I hope that helps! :)

Kerri speaks the truth!

The one thing that I would add is that, because DLR just goes by what you paid, there's no overriding reason to get a discounted pass, if you know you're going to upgrade. Though for 5...I can see that having a smaller amount first might be nice, but ultimately it's the same amount of money going out at the end...
