Upgrading at Check-in

I'm renting points from a DVC member for a Studio in Dec. If there is an empty 1 br. available at check-in is it possible to upgrade for a $ fee? (I realize this is HIGHLY unlikely)

You can usually do this at other dis. resorts - eg. add concierge, upgrade view, etc.

No, points can not be mixed with cash for an upgrade. As far as a complimentary upgrade, they also are almost unheard of for point resies, the exception being if a unit has to go out of service for some unforeseen reason, there have only been a couple of reports here on the DIS of actual room class upgrades at a DVC resort.

A member could upgrade using points that is for sure but as for a non-mamber with cash I don't know. It would be about $125 per night more for a one-bedroom if you could which is probably more than you are paying for the studio. When renting points you are getting the best buy in all of the WDW area.

Chuck is right, if you are staying on points, there is not upgrade because it throws off the point system. There are cash rooms available from CRO, but they are not the same inventory as DVC inventory, so you would be paying full price for your "upgrade".

I asked about this on my first trip because I booked a 1 bedroom and decided I needed a 2 bedroom a few days into the trip. (okay, I didn't need it, I wanted it! I didn't want me kids in my living room) He told me I could upgrade using additional points, I could not use cash to upgrade. He did tell me I could use up the rest of my points that I had on the reservation for a 2 bedroom and then pay cash for the remaining full days. But this would probably not work if you were renting because the number of points would not be an exact number for X number of nights in a 1 bedroom vs X number of nights in a studio. I could either borrow or bank the remaining needed number of points.
