Upgrading a ticket to an Annual Pass

I read Robo's thread but it really didn't specify but is it still advantageous to use your ticket before upgrading it or does it not matter anymore? I remember doing it where you would use the ticket first then upgrade. I don't know if that matters anymore so if anyone has an answer I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Tony

I was going to upgrade when I go in June but when I called to ask about when to do it, the cast member told me I would lose my fast passes. He told me to wait until the last day. I decided to just wait and ask in person. I will be booking for a party of 11 and don’t want to mess it up.

That is completely wrong information.
The amount of bad info offered when calling a "phone CM" is legend.
Most are not trained in these kind of rules.

While it would be OK to wait until the last day that you are using a ticket to
upgrade it to AP, it makes much more sense to do the upgrade at the start of the trip and
get the AP benefits and perks all through that entire first trip.

Waiting until after using a ticket to enter a park, or upgrading a new never-used ticket does not affect the price of the upgrade (or the ability to upgrade.)

Thank you so much for the information. I wanted to upgrade the first full day to take advantage of any discounts. I didn’t want to mess up any plans since there are 11 of us and I’m the only one upgrading.

If you have more than 7 days of fastpasses booked and you are staying offsite, you need to wait until you only have 7 days of fastpasses left before upgrading to annual passes, otherwise you will lose days 8-10.

I upgraded my tickets last October to an AP on my first day. No issues with FPs or anything else. We upgraded my wife's on our last day. We only had 5 day tickets so no issues for us.

Thank you to everyone for the helpful information. We are staying onsite but it’s good to know that it makes a difference. We have a 5 day park hopper plus pass. I want to upgrade on our first park day. Can I go in the park and upgrade on my way out so I don’t delay the rest of my party?

Yes.

Yes, and no. I had an offsite stay for 10 park days last year. I upgraded my 10 day base ticket to an AP on my way into the parks the first day. By the end of that day, I then had 9 days of FP on an AP. I did get a warning email that I would lose FP if I didn't get enough tickets to cover the FP or something to that effect, but by the time they would have removed the FP, I had already used two more days worth, and was down to only 7 days of FP anyway.

Thank you Robo, much appreciated!
