Upgrading a MYW ticket to AP

Is this possible only at the Guest Relations booths at the parks and DS? No way to do it over the phone?
 
If you have a ticket to upgrade, then you have to do it on site at one of the parks or DS.
 
As mentioned, it can only be done at WDW. it can be done at any Guest Relations location or any Park ticket booth. FYI, it cannot be done at the resorts.

There is generally no advantage to upgrading to AP in advance of your trip (even in the certain cases where that
is possible.)
That's because you will still need to go to a Guest Relations or ticket booth at WDW (with legal photo ID) after arrival to "activate" the AP, and to get printed and pick up your (needed) AP CARD for use in identification for getting any of the AP discounts available at WDW.

Thanks. I asked because I am looking to take advantage of the current DVC offer, where you get the Platinum Plus Pass for the cost of the Gold Pass. Said offer expires at the end of the year (or shortly thereafter), which is about five weeks before our trip.

I am not sure we need APs this year, so I just wanted to buy MYW tickets for now, book our FP's and give myself until the end of the year to mull over whether or not upgrading makes sense. But I can't wait until we are at the parks to upgrade because the DVC offer will have expired.

Did you buy the tickets from Disney? They can refund the tickets and sell you the AP over the phone if you get the right folks on the phone. If the tickets are from a package or third party, you can only upgrade in person.

Thanks. Never thought of that. But would the cancellation/refund of the MYW tix cancel the FP's as well?

You’d have to take a look at the FP+ faq thread. I’m under the impression that there’s an hour or so grace period, but you do need to have tickets or AP’s linked or you’ll lose your FP+’s.
