not sure where to post this. I have a rental for early Dec and I want to upgrade to a 2 br OKW from a 1br.

Do I need to go through the person that did the intial rental, or could someone else use points to upgrade? because I dont think the original person has any more.

or would the original person need to get a transfer of points first then upgrade?

Original renter could modify to book you a 2BR for as many nights as the points they rented you will allow and then you'd have to find another renter to rent you the rest of the nights. Original renter could get a transfer but those aren't easy to get and each member can only have one per year so they may not want to use their only transfer for you. They can, at 7 months out, get 24 one time use points from Disney. I am not sure the cost of those now...like $17 per point or $18?????? You could also just get a renter to book you a studio and keep the other 1BR rental as is. It takes more points and the rooms likely will be on another floor (or in another building).

Also early Dec may already be booked solid. I may go peak....

Yeah, pretty booked up. A random night here or there all the month of Dec.

You have a reservation for a one bedroom at OKW and that is what it will stay. You can't change anything if you don't own the points used to make the reservation. Even if there was something available. You are limited to five people plus one child under the age of three in the OKW one bedroom. If you have more guests joining you, they will need to make their own reservation through Disney Reservation Center because it's too late to get another reservation in Dec renting DVC points.

There's no way to upgrade a reservation in the DVC system. The only way to change from a 1 br to a 2 br is to cancel the reservation for the 1 br and make a new reservation for a 2 br.

The only person who can do *anything* to the reservation you have is the member you rented it from. DVC Member Services won't even discuss the reservation with anyone else, not you, not another member. This is for the security of the owner who made the reservation. Members would be pretty unhappy if another member could call in and change a reservation that they had made.

The owner you rented from could accept a point transfer, yes, and then cancel the 1 br and rebook it as a 2 br. Here are the reasons that probably won't work.

1) The odds of a 2 bedroom being available for your entire stay during the most popular month of the year from DVC reservations are slim to none.

2) Owners are only allowed one transfer per calendar year, and your original owner and the new owner you want to work with may not be willing to use up their one transfer on your reservation.

3) Even if they both went along with this and did the point transfer, and even if they somehow managed to find a 2 bedroom available for your dates, the villa could be snapped up by someone else in the few minutes it took to cancel your original reservation. And by the time the owner realizes that the 2 br is gone and goes back and tries to rebook the 1 br you originally had, that might have been taken, too, and now you have no reservation at all. I'm not being facetious - that really does happen to people.

There's a reason that people say that DVC rentals should be considered final transactions, with no changes or cancellations. I'm sorry, but I don't think you have much choice but to keep the 1 br.

I very much doubt the person you rented from will allow you to change your reservation, especially this late in the booking window.
