Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I am puzzling about the new tiered AP situation. I have 7 day hoppers for Easter break. On the last day, can I upgrade to a Gold AP?

Thanks!

Yes. You can upgrade to a Gold pass even if the ticket is used during a block-out period. The expiration date of the pass should be a year from the first day the ticket was used (but it might be a year from the day you upgrade, depending on how the CM does the upgrade).

Yes, I upgraded a 7-day PH I used over Christmas break to a Gold AP in January. I even upgraded it to a renewal since I had a PAP that has expired a couple weeks prior to my trip. It was backdated to the expiration of the PAP. Now I'm bummed that I didn't ask about the expiration date of a regular upgrade ... I would have been ecstatic to have the expiration date to be the date of my upgrade for an extra $100. I would have been able to get two Christmas trips in on it instead of just one. I'm filing that possibility away in my brain for next year :).

You can not use your last day on the park hopper ticket to enter a park and want to upgrade. You need to have at least one day left on the ticket
Why would you wait til your last day? The AP will be back dated to the first day you used your ticket

The AP will be back dated, so might as well update on the first day (after entering the park with said ticket), so you get the discounts and memory maker.
We are doing this exact thing next week.

I also agree that you may not want to wait to upgrade the ticket to get the AP discounts for food/merch (and even more if your planning to also get TiW).

The OP is going during a Easter Break which includes black out dates for the Gold AP so she can't upgrade right away or she won't be able to enter the parks. Also, she doesn't need a day left on her PH. She can upgrade on her very last day.

That's simply not true. You can upgrade on your last day. In some specific cases, you can even upgrade after that.

The gold pass has blackout dates. Upgrading after using a ticket on those dates is a loophole that's long been exploited by Florida residents. If she upgrades earlier, she won't have valid admission for those days.

It was explained to me at guest services at the studios that if I used that last day I would have nothing to upgrade so it was better to do it with at least one day left on the ticket.
It was further explained that the AP will be dated for the first day of use from the ticket we were upgrading from-- NOT the day we got the AP

Is this different if we were FL residence?

A ticket is still "valid admission" on your last day. You can use it for reentry that whole day. It's a common misinterpretation.

The AP expiration date is correct. The date is based on the date you first used the original ticket. It's best to think of all ticket changes as "exchanges" rather than "upgrades."
