Upgrades!

Hey, so glad to hear about all the upgrades!! I can't believe that Disney is upgrading as far as one year out... We too are booked for a secret porthole next Sept. My question is this, since we are not yet paid in full... Can I assume that upgrades are not offered until AFTER the cruise is all paid? Maybe that would be an incentive to go ahead and pay off!! Also, does it seem to be that special occasions like Honeymooners are given preferential treatment when it comes to the upgrades?

Normally you need to be paid in full to be upgraded, but it's highly unlikely that those folks who were upgraded for next year are already paid off, so who knows?

I know it's exciting to think of the possibility of being upgraded but I don't want people to get their hopes up. In 9 cruises on DCL I've never been upgraded, and it's still definitely the exception and not the norm. I do think traveling in the off-season when the ships are not totally full increases your chances of an upgrade. Celebrating a special occasion such as a honeymoon, birthday or anniversary really does not increase your chances, as there are so many folks on the ship who are in the same boat (no pun intended).

Upgrade or not, it's still great to be cruising!

We are not paid in full as of yet just the initial deposit. We are celebrating our honeymoon so I am not sure if that made a difference for our 9-2003 upgrade. Hope this helps.

Since a lot of these recent upgrades seem to be for a cruise in Sept. of next year, one explanation may be that DCL has booked a large group (such as a corporate incentive trip) that required a certain number of rooms in those categories.

I know my old company booked 300 rooms on the Wonder a couple of years ago for this purpose; they booked it about nine months to a year in advance, and they used a combnation of categories depending on the level of the employee's reward.
