The only time DVC upgrades is if your unit goes out of service unexpectedly, and there is not another similar unit available. So it happens, but it is pretty rare. They don't do it just to be nice on point reservations.

Asking won't help, but they do happen. We were at BWV in Sept. and were upgraded from a standard studio to a preferred 1 bedroom. They happen, just not very often.
