Hello all. I am new to the DIS and also new to DVC so please bear with me if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about! My DH and I joined this past November but have not used our membership yet. We have a dream vacation scheduled for this September and we're staying at BCV!!! I can't put into words how excited we are. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has experienced any complimentary upgrades upon check in. I have read on other boards that people are often upgraded to bigger rooms or better views only by asking! Would this be possible when using DVC? Are there every any upgrades like from a 1BR to 2BR or to concierge level? I certainly don't want to sound greedy, but hey, why not? :confused3

Welcome to the boards! I have no idea about upgrades but am intersted in what others have experianced.popcorn::

DVC is a timeshare, and doesn't work like the Disney resorts in terms of upgrades.

Even with the other resorts, upgrades are not nearly as common as they appear on these boards. Someone asks if anyone has ever been upgraded at X resort, nine people post to say that they've gotten upgrades and one says they haven't, and people think "WOW! Almost everyone who stays at X resort gets an upgrade!" Of course, it doesn't work that way.

At DVC resorts, upgrades are extraordinarily rare. The only way you'd get an upgraded to a 2-BR is if 'your' `1-BR were unavailable due to a maintenance issue and every other 1-BR at BCV was occupied.

Upgrades to concierge are out of the question, since there's no concierge service at BCV. BC and BCV are two completely different resorts. They share facilities, but not guests.

One of our studios was upgraded from a standard view to a boardwalk view several years ago. Unfortunately it was only for one night before we moved to a 2 bedroom. It was a nice surprise but not something I would expect again.

The other posters are correct. DVC resorts, as a timeshare, are designed to operate at near capacity year round, makig upgrades unheard of, except in the case of a health or engineering issue with your room, and if there are no other similar rooms available.

Upgrades with DVC reservations are VERY few and far between. The only time you will get an upgrade is if something unforseen happens to deplete inventory in the unit-type you've book (unexpected maintenance, booking error by DVC, etc.) We've been members for 10 years and have taken 2-3 trips per year with no upgrades.

yeah, for DVC, upgrades are as about as rare as bigfoot sightings. and even in regular disney hotels, upgrades don't happen "often." most people are happy getting what they paid for...but don't bother posting that in "upgrade" threads.

this should be in a FAQ for n00bs.

OP here. Thanks to all for the responses. I kind of figured that's how things worked and now feel a little silly for asking. I hope I did not come off as sounding greedy. Our home resort is AKV but we're staying at BCV this September. I know that I will be more than happy with our 1BR villa there. Not sure how much better you can get than that anyway:) We will be there for my DD's 3rd birthday. 57 days and counting.:yay: I am enjoying the DVC boards. Everyone is so knowledegable and friendly. I just read another thread in the "Disney Resorts" forum about pool hopping. WOW, that one got pretty heated! Glad to know that people are so protective of their pools, especially since we will be enjoying SALB on our upcoming trip!

You certainly didn't come ff as "greedy" it is a fairly common question. It just isn't possible or practical because of the way DVC is structured.
