So I have heard that you can get "free" upgrades with your rooms... is this true???? and if it is true...how do you do it???

Help.....

It's actually pretty easy, just show up at the resort ;) . Most upgrades are done behind the scenes, prior to your arrival. Basically, they're done to benefit the resort, either to free up lower priced rooms, or if there's a maintenance issue or overbooking. The best suggestion is to reserve a room that you'll be happy with, because 99 times out of 100, that's exactly what you'll get. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to how they're given out, just Disney magic.

I wouldn't go expecting an upgrade. People post on here a lot about getting free upgrades, but I have yet to see it happen for us. I'd just book what you can afford and be prepared for that. It doesn't ever hurt to ask when you check in, though. :)

so does happen at the value resorts more since they??? and what are the type of upgrades??? do they send you to another resort???? or just give you a perferred room??

I'd say it probably happens less at the values, just because they only have 2 or 3 levels of rooms to begin with. If you have a standard room booked, they could only upgrade you to preferred or a family suite if you're at the AllStar Music. I've been on these DIS boards for years and I only know of 2 times that Pop(?) guests were offered an upgrade to another resort. I'm pretty sure it was a result of overbooking a large group and some guests were offered an upgrade to DVC.

As Grimley mentioned, it really doesn't happen as often as some people think they do. You could have 100 DIS'ers staying on site at the same time and when they return, the 3 or 4 who got an upgrade will post about it, not the 97 who didn't. That tends to make it look more common than it actually is.

okay thanks that helps... I am actually staying at POP at the end of Sept. I've just heard that it happens and was just hoping that it could happen to me.

Another question I have is that I requested a King size bed for my husband and I...How possible is this going to be????

If that is your only request and you show up for your check in reasonably early and they actually have rooms with this configuration, I'd think you'll probably get this. If you show up to check in at 10 PM or something, this might be a little difficult for them to grant.

I didn't think they had King beds at the values. Check it out.

well I thought they did accept my "request" when I made the reservation, so assumed that they had king beds... I also did my research on it and on the disney site they said they had them so I assume that they do. Thank you both, Grimley and Tammmi!!! I am supposed to land at 11:35am so I expect to get there around 1ish. Hopefully it will all work out. thanks

We received a upgrade from akl to a 2 bedroom villa at ssr.VERY NICE. The akl was overbooked and had to change us due to construction. She said because we were so nice about everything they would do this. It was $120 a night. Not bad for a full kitchen and washer/dryer.:cool1: And cheaper then what we were going to pay.
