Upgrades?

I read on another board that someone recieved an upgrade from a moderate resort to a deluxe resort by asking for an invitational upgrade when they were booking? I called and the person at Disney said they have never heard of this. Can anyone help me? Do upgrades even exist?

I have heard of people being upgraded when they check in. Getting a better view room and rarely getting upgraded to Club Level, etc. I know there are offers of upgrades to POP would be guests to other resorts, I believe, due to overbooking and definitely, I know some AKL would be guests are being "upgraded" to other resorts, etc., due to construction.

Admittedly I've only been on a mod on these boards for a few months.. but I've never heard the phrase "invitational" anything in regards to resorts bookings.
