Upgrades When Staying on Pts?

Just curious, Have you ever received an upgrade at check in when staying on points?

I just got an "upgrade" on my upcoming stay at BLT. I called the other day to purchase tickets and MS rep proactively offered me a higher floor and an Epcot view.

But I would be interested in knowing if others have received real upgrades.

there are a handful of people who have booked stays on pts and gotten upgrades due to their room not being available for a maintenance issue or something and there was no comparable room to put them. there are probably several hundred thousand who have stayed numerous times with no upgrade.

a timeshare is different than a hotel. a hotel may upgrade its guests at its discretion for a variety of reasons. in a timeshare, you have purchased a given level of interest - the front desk does not generally have the option of giving you extra points' worth of room size or whatever. there are only a certain number of points sold for BLT...if some owners are upgraded, it would throw the system out of whack (not to mention annoy the other owners.)

(now what DVC does with its share of ownership in the DVC resorts is up to DVC...cash stays at DVC resorts are somewhat more likely to be upgraded.)

an MK view would be a real upgrade. some of the bay lake views (i think) apparently can see some of the higher epcot attractions on a clear day.

Some people have gotten downgraded. There were a couple of recent posts where members got bumped from boardwalk views to pool views due to renovations.

I've been a member almost 10 years and never got an upgrade at DVC or any WDW hotel. I did get upgraded in June at the Swan from limited view to resort view but it was just 1 night.

As mentioned, there are rarely "upgrades" as such in timeshares. That is if you mean upgrading in room size....not likely to happen, and I'm not sure, but they might be able to charge your account with the extra points needed to "upgrade" you unless they had nothing available in your room catagory.

Upgrades only seem to happen if your room catagory is all full because of renovations etc, and then they do the upgrades to whatever is available. We once talked to someone at the Miller's Road pool who had been upgraded from a 2 bedroom to a GV on an II exchange. They were scrambling to quickly invite folks to come down and stay with them for the week! We've never been "upgraded" in 12 years of membership and too many stays to remember.

We once arrived at OKW late in the day after travelling from the UK.

We had booked 2 studios and at check-in we were told that all the studios were gone! So they were going to put us in a 2 bed. That was really nice and a complete surprise.
