Upgrades??? Do you Ask For Them Or Are They Offered?

I was reading the thread about upgrades and experiences. Do you ask for your upgrades or have they been offered to you?

We have never asked for an upgrade. Last November, we arrived at 9:30 pm at the AKL. We had booked a Standard Savannah View with our only request being non-smoking. Upon check-in, the CM nicely greeted us and said that she was giving us a complimentary Deluxe Savannah View with bunkbeds for the kids. Our room was wonderful!
